I entered in my first challenge. I sure hope it's not addicting.

Yes, it is addictive and for you it is already too late deafwolf. One entry and you are a lost cause!

I really do think we need a "DPC Anonomous - We'll healp you beat your addiction" society.

I have to get it right this time!

I would join! I rarely go anywhere without my camera anymore, everywhere I look I see possible shots and challenges and I'm about ready to start working on my "Still Life" entry, have only missed, I think, two challenges since joining.

Thanks so much Barb! It's all your fault for leading me here!

And I'm slowly working my way through the voting on the Halloween Challenge and commenting on all of them

"And I'm slowly working my way through the voting on the Halloween Challenge and commenting on all of them"

OMG!! And I just finished voting on all the entries in the Grace challenge with only one comment and thought that an accomplishment. I'm already sucking wind.

It is certainly fun and addicting, until you get very discouraging comments with no content. But then just look at what pictures the commenter has entered and you usually find they haven't entered ANY challenges so feel better =)

Not addicting.. not at all.. *eye twitches and hand repeatedly reaches for clicker on mouse*
11/02/2003 07:40:31 PM · #10
I've noticed that trend as well Tim.

Any totally unhelpful negative comments (and I do not mean constructive comments that help you to improve) inevitable come from people who have nothing in their portfolio and have never entered a challenge.

It is so much easier to critisise others, in the negative sense, when you protect yourself by making sure you can't be critisised yourself.

I usually just ignore those comments to be honest. They can't be bothered to do anything constructive, I can't be bothered to take their negative comments seriously.

Tim, I have thick skin. I try to be subjective about rampant opinions.

Karen, I have it under control now. *twitch*

I just put my "update stats" T-shirt in the wash

Well I'm glad to see others have noticed it too! I know I'm not a great photographer, but at least tell me why if you're going to take the time to tell me at all!

haha I like the "DPC Anonomous" idea. "My name's Tim...I refresh DPC 50 times a day...I've only entered 3 challenges but there's no end in sight...I haven't taken a picture since 7:20..." =)

If it gets toooo overwhelming.. you may have grounds to sue, because NOWHERE on this site is there posted a warning that entering challenges may be harmful to your mental health.

It hasn't affected me yet though... b.. blu..blu...blu..

Unfortunately it is and....

drugs are cheeper.

Wait till you go hard core and buy an update stats button, and another challenge each week, a DSLR because you'll never improve and come close to that green ribbon just over the horizon unless you get a real cam, Lenses, because now you have so many new options with the new cam but cheep glass isn't doing for you what you expected so you go for broke (broke being the operative word) and buy a $1500.00 IS telephoto lens to shoot at stuff in the zoo and your kids soccer games. a fish eye (which you'll never use) Filters, for cool effects. More memory, Because the card you had before was good for 254 pix and now that you shoot in raw it only takes 18. an Extra cam battery Just in case. a portable storage hard drive for when your away from your computer. a titanium steel tripod with a ball head mount and a monopd.a remote for the cam because of the iota of camera shake you get when you take long exposure pix. Of course trips to exotic spots so you can take more pix. A weekly visit to the chiropractor because even on a trip to walmart you Need to take the cam and all afore mentioned equipment

Perhaps everyone should be required to check a box that they have read this thread as well as the rules before they are allowed to hit the Submit button ...

I've been a member for 6 weeks. I have entered 6 challenges that have finished, 2 challenges currently being voted on, and I have 2 entries in the currently open challenges.

Hi, I'm sleekr, and I too am a DPC addict.

Haha... that's why I forced myself not to buy a Canon 300D just yet!

i just came into a d-60, and I'm faced with the same problem. I think it is very easy to become more concerned with the machines and the glass, and forget about taking photos. Having a point and shoot was not so bad..
11/03/2003 06:21:02 AM · #20
well the dSLR was gonna happen in time, but this site was a cause of me getting it when i couldn;t afford it, and of course, a lens, flash, more memory, and will be getting more memory yet, and now I need a better tripod, monopod, filters, none of which I can afford, but I can see hapening very quick.

I can just see the police reports now ....

Yes Ma'am, we saw the mugger. No ma'am, it wasn't a drug addict, it was another of those bloody DPC'ers trying to get enough cash together for another hit of hardware!

Psssssst, anyone wanna buy a lens? Only one owner and she was an old lady who only used it on Sundays.
