I need ideas on making a black shooting box. Black Background in the dimensions of 36in by 36in by 36in. Painted Wood is an option, Cardboard is an option, or maybe buy one.

Any ideas?

Black boxes are actually bright orange so that they're easy to see if they need to be recovered.

Oh, that's the airline industry... ;-)

Flat black foamcore boards from Michael's is what I use. I use (4) 36x48 to create a box with openning on end (or side) to shoot into.

I made a 'cube' shape frame with copper conduit pipe and elbows. The elbows get spot welded to stop them from rotating. Its collapsable and moveable fairly easily. I then took a sheet of white (yes I said white) formica and formed it around 3 sides. This is wire tied to the conduit. I use clamp style lights to light my subject.
White will make a black background if you dont add light. so I flip it to where the open side is down and put a black velvet fabric down the back side and the floor. The fibers of velvet absorbs more light than paper/foam board. The longer the 'tunnel' the darker it will be. I shoot at night and light on the front avoiding stray light bouncing down into the tunnel.

I have pics somewhere but I don't have them on the pc anymore. I will see if I can find them and add it later.

ps. They do make a black formica sheet as well.
