There are nearly 350 submissions in the "diagonal" challenge, yet I have only received about 150 votes. I know there is a whole day left, but I am surprised that there aren't more voters.
Whenever I submit to a challenge, I always vote on 100% of submissions, and then I go over and vote 100% on the other open challenge as well.
I guess this is uncommon? |

I know there are a lot of people (I'm not one of them) who don't want to vote on challenges they are in - that might be part of the explanation...
But, you are right - the number of votes seem a little low in this challenge ("Light on White" had 233 entries and I received 202 votes - and I have only received 158 in "Diagonal" with far more entries).

I dunno, guess it´s the season, people are kindof busy either with exams in school or preparing for the holidays, I know that applies to me anyway. I wouldn´t worry too much about it, they´ll be back :)
(Besides, in my personal experience, the scores rarely change after the first 100 votes anyway so it really doesn´t matter) |

| One word - FINALS!!! I think a good number of us on here are college-age-ish and believe me when I say we're not sleeping right now! |

Can't fathom why they wouldn't vote. I vote 100 percent on each challenge I enter. I seldom vote on those I don't. When I vote I don't vote all the images a 1 to help mine. It wouldn't have much effect. I've spent time looking at active profiles and realize that most people don't vote 100 percent. I guess this explains why images that draw the eye as thumbnails and then continue to impress as full size do so well. It seems those that don't impress as thumbnails just don't do well.

I think 100% voting could be encouraged by NOT displaying the thumbnails prior to voting on them. You should only be able to see the thumbnails of the photos you have already voted on.

This is a great idea, I don't think it was propose before. Why not give it a try for a couple of challenges? |

I strongly prefer to vote 100% of any challenge I do vote on and the high number of entries these days is what discourages me. I also don't tend to make the effort if I feel, having skimmed through thumbnails, that it's what I consider a weak or uninteresting set of images in general.
At the end of the day, I vote for my own enjoyment and if I don't think I'll enjoy the experience I don't do it.

I don't like that idea at all. Sometimes a quick perusal of the thumbs gets me motivated to start voting and I keep going.
It could be that with the holidays and all, people are busy and not spending as much time in front of the computer? I have few comments on my Free Study which I thought was odd. Maybe people are out drinking eggnog and shopping instead. ;~D |

Yup, I suspect this is uncommon. I still vote 100% on any challenge I enter. I may soon drop to 20%. I've looked at a number of profiles and it appears that most members don't vote 100%. I've seen several that win ribbons that don't seem to vote on any, recently anyway. I hadn't given this much thought but would seem to mean that your entries need to draw attention as thumbnails as well as look good full sized. The thing I wonder is; Do people look at a full sized image and then *not* vote on it?

| Every time I start to vote I see all the forced diagonals created by rotating the camera & I hesitate. I don't understand what these photogs were thinking & I can't think of anything polite to say in a comment & it seems I can't give a low score without a comment...so I end up not voting at all. |

No disrespect, but I'm pretty sure that's been tossed out for conversation previously with mixed results on feedback.
Personally, I like having thumbnails available. In challenges that I have an entry in I usually comment only. Thumbnails are helpful in that regard.
I also think that you would lose even more voters if you take away the thumbnails until after a vote has been cast because those that use the thumbnail images may be totally turned off if they have to scroll thru the images in full size and just not vote period. Consider this ... after selecting a vote the browser automatically loads the next image - at least that thumbnail voter is presented with follow-up images that they may vote on since it's there.
Anyway, I don't think thumbnail voting is a major issue and by taking them away you'll be losing something that is a benefit to others for other reasons.
JMO of course. :D |

Not true. The 'comment box' only pops up the first time you cast a vote under 4 for the current challenge you're in. Even then, you are not forced to leave a comment. Just close it and keep going. |

The voters have been scared away for fear of being wrongly targeted by the DPC anti-cheat-voting-script, FATBOY, which looks for unscrupulous voting patterns.

Too many concurrent challenges in voting phase probably lessens the total number of votes cast in any one challenge.
It's a pretty daunting thing to start voting and see 350+ images in the challenge. I haven't had the strength of will to vote in everything on the plate the last couple months. |

I totally agree. With so many members and so many challenges, it's hard to vote thoughtfully. |
