On a typical Mac keyboard the "Alt" key is labeled "OPT" or Option. It is often held down in combination with the command ("Apple") and Shift keys to initiate shortcuts, and to bring up special typographical characters -- for example, hold down the Option key while you type a "g" to get the Copyright Symbol (©).

I think John is suggesting that you got a new computer, maybe with a new/unfamiliar operating system : )

Ehm, that depends how you look at it. :)

Your question: can someone tell me what key that sign stands for?

My answer: alt (or option), next to command (which is next to spacebar).

And just to avoid confusion: The symbols you see next to "show all bookmarks" are the shortcut keys, so if you press them it's the same as going to Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks with your mouse.

All clear? :)
