Ok, just browsing the net and found this really cool pix of a pano.

Looking around the pano, I happen to notice what looks like a cloud.

Ok, it may be a cloud, but interestingly enough, it is the only saucer shaped cloud in a clear blue sky.

What do you think? Am I crazy? Drunk? Republican?

Look around the pano.

I'm not thinking it's a cloud either. From my experience, limited as it may be, clouds don't reflect light like that.

Scroll straight up - looks like a part of lens flare.

Believe me when I say thay in my 20 + years in the film biz, I have never seen a lens flare like that.

Usually, a flare is dappled, sharp, and bright like you see above the sun in this pix.

It is never flat, oblong, and soft. Plus, the object is dark below, and bright on top. Lens flares don't do that either.

Considering the the photo is a stithed 360 pano, I think it's probably safe to say that the spot is not necessarily unedited, and the person probably took the picture not facing the sun, but at about 75degrees from center, which can make lens flare weird on a fisheye like that. If it was a Peleng, it has problems with internal stray light anyways.

I imagine that if the dude was there, he might have mentioned seeing a large floating disk hovering in the sky like that.

Ghosting or reflections of the sun in the lens itself as a result of shooting straight into the sun. It is also directly opposite the lens flare at the top of the sun. I have seen it before in some explanation about optical effects.

Why do people deny the obvious - Of course it's a UFO :-))

Tonight after half a bottle of rum I will agree with you. It is just one big conspiracy.

I think that the aliens only come down on Sunday to watch thier favorite football player Terrell Owens from the planet x-9er.

Yup, they told me the same thing.

What's really strange is the "no parking" signs. It appears it was meant to be viewed from above... :P

I still say at a large icidence, because the flare can be seen in the pic opposite of the sun/orb thingy too, though the picture is probably a stich of 3 or more fisheye shots.

I just want to know who the hell is insane enough to put their camera on a kite??

Here's another site on using kites. I think using small remote-controlled planes and helicopters as camera mounts is getting more popular as well.

Doesn't look like a UFO to me. Looks like a lenticular cloud.

You are right. It's in the same place under the sun in this shot, and this one too. It's got to be a camera thing.

Isn't that a "lenticular" type cloud? I bet there's a small island directly under the cloud.

Okay, it's past midnight here. Got some rum in me.

It is clearly an UFO. It's official now.

But only a tin foil hat right, all the other stuff is way to dangerous.

Maybe actual tin foil (if you could get it) would work, though a recent MIT study seems to suggest that an aluminum beanie will actually amplify any signals. However, there are also some sites which dispute the MIT results, so perhaps more large government grants will be necessary to find out (and supress) the ultimate truth of the matter ...

I think we should all run around naked and pretend to be the monkeys that we really are.

Paul, your endless supply of interesting links never fails to intrigue me. Not only do I find the debunking site more informative and believable than the MIT study (not even the dummy appears to be taking it seriously); but I am disappointed that MIT failed to test my favorite...the tinfoil sombrero.

OR...the aliens are watching his kite take pictures. They must be truly bored.

I heard about the MIT study through NPR. I only found it today by doing a search (not Google!) for "foil and 'MIT study'" and got the debunking site as the first hit -- fortunately they linked to the MIT stidy themselves, so I needed look no further ... : )
