We had an earthquake in Hawaii yesterday. Knocked out power from 7am to 10pm. No internet, no macro post. Fortunately I had a lot of time on my hands and went on a walking photo shoot for several hours. So here is...

No, no, I didn't mean that. I like that photo as it is, but I'm having a hard time finding good images really close up (does that make sense?)

Yeah, that's exactly it. I'm finding (and have found in the past) that it is difficult to come up with a good really close up image that is also a beautiful image, something you want to hang on your wall, not just a closeup for the sake of getting really close.

It's an excellent challenge, to try and figure out how to make good really close images - that's why I like this thread.

yeah... my post was meant as a joke to illustrate this point, suggesting that you should focus on the screw just because it was little...

obviously i failed...

Then do the reversed lens trick like I do. Close enough to almost scratch the front of the lens.

You don't need a macro lens, just hold a reversed 50mm lens in front of your Fuji's lens. You focus by moving the lens and camera back and forth.

I can get much closer with the reversed lens than just my macro function. I will try to post some comparisons either tomorrow or later in the week.

Ok, guys.... give me your honest opinions on the smudged background. I liked it late at night when I did it, hate it this morning....
