mk or Ben - how DO you make a video like that?
It could be so useful in my constant struggle to make my mother a little bit computer literate.

Great JoB Ben--

I would like to remind everyone that Ben has some other great video Tut's on his website, and they are all free, free I tell ya! :)

I left clicked on it and it crashed Firefox. I will try to view it on the not-so-tempermental computer.

Basically what you need is a screencasting software and a microphone. I'm not sure what software Ben uses but here's an article ironically called Screencasting to help your Mom that gives a rundown of many of the available ones.

Fantastic tutorial. As a rookie, I was going to wait to post to the prints section, but after seeing how easy it was, I posted what I consider my best ever photo to the print section. I have submitted it for resale, but now realize that I can buy enlargements for myself at cost! I have a contract to supply some of my bird photos to a local nature center, so after they decide which ones they want, I'll upload them and order the prints from DPC.

Hey even an old fart can learn with help from you kids!

Questions:
So if you have a 3MP camera you still can submit for DPCprints? it only will limit the size of your prints, right?

Is there a safe way to boost the size of your image (a program for example)?

Thank very much you I have seen all your videos now and all are excellent, I would like to save them for reference, though.

Congrats!
ivan

Thanks Ivan, and everyone :)

Yeh, I couldn't put in the extra 0 for cents because the box wouldn't let me input any more numbers! Shame really, I'm sure I'd get tons of sales at that price :P

With a 3mp camera you can definately still submit, although you may be limited in size, you're right. You could definately get a high quality 4x5, and probably a fairly good 8x10 too.

Boosting the size of your image is what I was doing with the resampling in Photoshop. There are programs designed specifically for that use, Genuine Fractals I think is one, but I'm not sure if I got the name right, it's been a while. However, the step-by-step increment upsizing in Photoshop should give your more than satisfactory results :)

The photos I've got on DPCPrints from my 2mp P&S top out at 8x10, so 3mp is definitely okay. ;-)

If you are using Photoshop 7.0 or earlier you should upsample in steps of 5-10% to the desired size.

If you are using Photoshop 8.0 (CS 1) or later, or Photoshop Elements 3.0 or later you should upsample in a single step using the Bicubic Smoother option.

Genuine Fractals is software dedicated to resizing images, and is generally considered better where extreme enlargements (say, more than 150-200% of the original size) are needed. It's not cheap, but less expensive than a 10MP camera ...

Thank you very much Paul. This is very clear, maybe I will get the program if I cannot upgrade soon my camera :(

I uploaded my first image and it was approved! To me that is the highest honor that I have received here. My contest photos have only received votes of 4.5-5.2. Thanks again Ben. I'll try to upload some more for sale later, now that the first hurdle has been crossed.

Then if someone buys one, I'll be ecstatic.

Ben: this is really a terrific video.

You resized to a 5x4 ration, which would yield an 8 x 10.

Yet when you showed the pricing form, it was 8 x 12.

Was the one you'd prepped a different aspect ratio?

Yeh, sorry about the confusion, the one I prepared before was a 4x6 ratio.

Ok, no problem. Thanks to you, I've now uploaded my first two prints, and I'm going to do a lot more! :)

Ben, kind of strange now when I read your posts in the forums. I have started reading them in my head with your British Accent. Strange Really... LOL!!! Awesome Tutorial!

One question though... What happens if you don't put commas between the key words. Non of mine currently have commas but have just spaces. Curious to know. I guess the obvious answer is just going to be, they wont work.

One other question... Is there a lag time between when you post your print and when you can search on it using the key words?
