All of us have had entries that were misunderstood. Whether is was our technique, an editing process, or the photo's interpretation. Post your most misunderstood photo and let us know what you were going for.

I think the problem is we *do* understand you :P

*runs very far away*

I'll bite. Not sure this is misunderstood per se...just not enjoyed... :) Thought it was one of my better images, but...

this would have to be the most misunderstood of my own. I entered it in the darkness challenge. Some people seemed to have a really hard time associating this dog with NO eyes - who lives in total darkness 24/7 with the challenge theme.
A lot of my pics dont score that great but I can see why. This one I was totally blown away by the lack of a high score. It remains as one of my favorites.

I think most said "what is this?"

Here what it was... "if" you have kids running around the house (moving) and you are doing something else same time, give them play station so they will sit and be "stationary" while you are finishing your things.

I mentioned that in my other post "balancing audience"... still weak signal for some LOL

Trust me, as a parent I know what I am talking about here :D

Taken for the "Chaos" challenge.

First of all, some thought that is was a painting or some other artwork...probably because of the stage lighting. This was taken at a play. I thought it was a very impactful photo even for non-Christians, but apparently most didn't think so. I also thought it really fit the challege (one that was a more difficult challenge IMO)

Not sure its good to dredge this up again. but some people took it as a bullemic thing. and others just were grossed out by the idea. I thought it was funny, and meant it as more of a one too many type thing. It was one of my first entries and taught me alot. especially that the title is important. and potty humor is not well recieved.

This is a picture of Oreo cookies shot through the bottom of a glass of milk. I thought it was pretty clever, but a lot of people didn't understand what the milk was, or why it is so distorted.

... now, where can I find optical quality drikning glasses. Hmmmm...

People don't like arty-farty photos :)

It's OK....I'm not sure I understand it now, either....though I think I did at the time.

I think if I would have entered this in the complementary colors challenge
in which I shot it for it would have done better. It was a long exposure of chinese maple leaves on a pool table and zoomed in halfway through. Abit to abstract, and now that I think about I don't know how anyone would have got it. lol

If you look at my notes, this one was overflowing with "symbolism".

I guess you had to be there...

Sigh... nobody gets me... lol.

OMG, this one's easy! My second challenge entry, my first really "set-up" shot, my first try at being creative... all on a poorly calibrated monitor so it ended up harsher than I thought.

Those are SLIPPERS, people! I just couldn't believe they couldn't guess that... but then again, I hadn't learned DPC voters yet (and still haven't, apparently).

Without a doubt, this one.. For the holiday challenge. I got alot of comments saying it didnt meet the challenge etc, where in fact this IS what the meaning of christmas holidays is to Australians. I was quite disapointed actually.

I got comments of "too blurry" on a motion blur entry. Oi.

This is still one of my favorite pics, I probably should have self DQ'd.

I was going for a low-contrast, flowing, blurry, zen-like blend of water and bird and motion all as one...or something to that effect, anyway. One or two people got it, so that makes the 4 score worth it in the end. ;)

Not a really bad score, but I think some people did not read or know about the Stenpnen King's novel.
I had some comments about the background being disturbing, but it was there on purpose, to recreate the novel. The hunting shack was a big part of the novel.

While I have no proof that it is, I'm sure this would be my most misunderstood photo (not that I have a whole lot on the site right now).

It's not about looking up my nose - it's more about the tones, the textures and the shapes in a much more abstract sort of way. At least it's supposed to be ;)
07/14/2006 07:47:43 PM · #24

I am often misunderstood... my currently entry is getting alot of questions:)
07/14/2006 07:48:59 PM · #25

I don't know why this received some of the comments it did. I would love to know what people were thinking when they looked at it.
Example:
"Sorry, but the treatment of this topic is so unappealing."
"Man, I'm sorry, but this looks *disgusting* to me,"
and an unusually harsh comment which was withdrawn before the voting ended.

I don't have hard feeling, just bewildered. And a little amused
