Just a quick question.
The firmware upgrade for the D70, does it makes it equal to the D70s (except the LCD screen) in all aspects? Thanks

It gives it the same update focusing improvements and the new menus, yes...so basically, the d70 with updated firmware is the d70s minus the LCD, so you're correct.

Any chance Canon will come out with a firmware for the 20D that makes it a 1Ds Mark II? Because that would be kinda nice!

The d70s also has a port for a wired remote.

IMHO I dont think so. Canon has a history of "dumbing down" their models rather than "upgrading" them, as in the 300D (almost similar to 10D). So I guess Canon do not practise this as Nikon did, unfortunately.

Whats the difference with the A or B firmware. Is it simply a roll back option?

Ok, so firmware upgrades from Canon aren't usually very significant, more fixes to major issues, but "dumbing down"?

That doesn't make any sense. The camera is as the camera started out. No firmware upgrade has come out to my knowledge that has removed features from the camera that were initially present.

Good for Nikon for pushing things foward within a single body. I too wish that these things occured in the Canon camp. Of course, I don't use my camera to the full (pretty close with the S2 though), so I doubt this is a real issue for me.

The major differences from the 20D to 1D aren't the sort of things that could be included in firmware.

I upgraded my firmware not so long ago, and for one thing, the camera reads my memory cards correctly now when I shoot in RAW. I use RAW at all times now, and before the upgrade, the display read around 90 or so when my 1GB card was empty, instead of 174. Of course I could shoot more than 90, but it is nice to know just how much is left. It was the same for the 512MB card.
The menus read differently too. These are the differences I know of, I'm sure they have made more changes/improvements.

so beside the larger LCD screen, can I safely assume that the D70s is similar to the D70 (with upgraded firmware) ?

YES. Why didn't somebody just give you a simple answer in the beginning? Yes, a D70 is updated to the D70s with the firmware, except for the LCD screen (and the port for the remote).
Edit: deapea did, it just got lost in the barage of jibber.
