I don't seem to be able to generate a decent search query to see if this has been addressed in the forums before so if someone can point out some links I'd appreciate the help. I purchased a Canon 30D last Saturday since I already own a EOS-10 and thought I'd have the best of both worlds i.e. digital and film bodies that used the same lenses to keep the cost down. During testing, my Sigma 28-70MM zoom causes the 30D to crash with a Err99 code. I contacted Canon who politely told me to "use Canon lenses" and effectively blew me off. As the 30D is an upgraded(?) 20D I was wondering if anyone else had problems with non Canon lenses. BTW the 18-55MM Canon lens that comes with the 30D stinks to high heaven (focus issues, soft images, etc) which is why I was so interested in being able to maintain my present lens base. Ah well, whats a few more hundreds of dollars for lenses eh? Any thoughts, suggestions, links, hints, etc would be appreciated.

Perhaps contact Sigma. Your lens might require a "rechip". |

It's common to have to "rechip" third-party lenses so they'll work with upgrades in the camera line. It's one of the arguments in favor of OEM lenses...

Hi Joe - its as Brad and Robert have said - some of the oder Sigma lenses will not work on DSLR's without them being sent back to Sigma to be chipped. Newer Sigma lenses are fine
