This is a warning for all DPCr's to double check all of their comments received.
I recently posted this pic in my PAD:

I received a comment from a user with the screen name "your" that consisted of nothing but links to XXX porn sites. I deleted the comment and went back to check on the comments about an hour later and found the same comment from the same person. Again, I deleted the comment. Then I removed the picture from the blog. The user "your" has a profile that is hidden, so I have no idea who this person is.
I found it extremey inappropriate, though, and I am rethinking posting any more pics of the kids.

PLEASE go through your PAD's and check your comments, especially on photos with children or young girls in them.

I would go one further and say to anyone with any kind of open input system (reqistration, guestbook, commenting etc) to check the new entries daily.

There is a rash of bots out there that seek websites with open registration, anonymous guestbooks and/or comment code. They will open a new user account and post a link to their less than desirable site.

Honestly the comment you recieved most likely had nothing to do with the picture...probably wasn't even a human that made the post...check all your pics, once they find a easy system they will be back...

I try to help a community website with an Open Forum registration, it is a no win battle on that site as 10-20 fake accounts are opened daily with links to bad places... bots (robots) can even make posts on behalf of these fake accounts.

You will see more and more sites with Code Word ID and Picture Identification to log-in as a means to curb this bot activity.

I use to get about 20-30+ spam comment messages to do with porn, drugs, and poker mostly. It's annoying, especially if you want to allow people to post comments. Depending on what blogging system you use it's possible to attempt to block certain sites/words/ips. It doesnt stop them but it reduces them to the point where comment cleanup is easier and doesnt take forever.

That is rather disturbing. I don't have enough people come to my blog to worry about it. But still never easy when you get spammers and the like attracting other people of the same ilk to your blog.

sorry to hear that..... that is disturbing I was geting that also and other spam mail when I made my email clickable on my website then I removed the clickable email feature and it stoped for now. Kind of sucks when that happens I dont understand what people get out of sending you this email or leaving crap like this in your blogs.

well - yesterday I posted a red squirrel that is missing it's tail and had the words "No tail-gating here" for the title. I too got hit by the mysterious "your" post - with a bunch of porn links. I just went and deleted them, and renamed the pic "Red-squirrel".

Well, I went and updated my settings so that you have to type in that squiggly letter code now to leave a comment. Hate to do it 'cause I find it annoying, but I guess the spam comments are worse. Sigh. People these days...

Thanks for all of your replies.

A couple of ways to keep spammer bots away from email if you have it on your site is:

Don't use a link just spell it out like: andy at pollarddigitalphotos dot com

or use a link like andy@NOSPAMpollarddigitalphotos.com and instruct the user to remove the NOSPAM before sending when their mail program opens the link.

Either way someone that wants to get a hold of you will and the bots wont recognize a valid email address.

Interesting...This same thing happened to me a couple of days ago too. It was on several of my photos in several different galleries on my Buzznet account. Just a long list of unsavory links but all posted from a different names. I contacted Buzznet support to let them know what had happened and to find out if it had happened to anyone else. Nothing like that has ever happened before so I just assumed some spammer went crazy on Buzznet. They just told me that I could change my settings to not allow annonymous comments. Luckily they have a system that tells me when new comments have been added so they were quickly spotted and deleted. Annoying as all heck though. Looks like somebody may have been hitting our list if it's happening to other DPC PAD'ers too. :(

I'd be more concerned by who was linking to my picture. You can use the "link:" directive in Google to find out--for example, link:www.mysite.com\picture.htm

Or just go to advanced search and fill in the correct box.

bumping so other PADer's can be aware that the spammers may be using our links lists

Sara- you can also turn use the function that you have to approve all comments to be displayed

Thanks for the heads up
