I wouldn't say it's really "stolen" but I came across one of my pictures on some guy's website that appears to be like some sort of "My Space" thing.

//daft75.stumbleupon.com/

I happened to stumble upon, coincidentally enough, my picture on this site. He has a link to DPChallenge and my profile name but I still feel sort of wierd seeing it up on someone's site without asking for permission. Who knows...perhaps this person is a member here?

Not just not asking permission but hot linking too.

Well, it appears you're not the only one...
Google results "dpchallenge.com" within the site "stumbleupon.com"

Is this really that big a deal? Comes off as flattery to me.

I see your point as well. I'm not really sure what to make of this. Sure it can be flattery but I would probably fele more flattered if he asked to post it first. Rather than just finding it somewhere.

"All digital photo copyrights belong to the photographers and may not be used without permission."

It is at the bottom of every page...

Stumbleupon's "about" page //www.stumbleupon.com/about.html
says that their purpose is for sharing "web sites" In a cursory view of their site and terms, I see nothing about sharing other people's work/images/etc.

Now, I don't know if this is a huge issue. No one there has had the good taste to "borrow" any of my images. Also, at DPC, I have been known to "borrow" work from elsewhere on the web to post in the forums. I feel more and more uneasy about some of the uses I've put other's work to without attribution. At least at stumbleupon, there is attribution and the images are not exactly in someone's portfolio...

Sitting on the fence here. Anyone want to knock me off to one side or the other?

Well my stuff's all over that site (I found at least 9), but it's the "least offensive" unauthorized use I've seen... there is at least credit given and a link back to the original. Personally, I would consider this free publicity rather than theft.

Yeah, you have your own page in my Google results!

(;p...)

In a practical sense, there's just no way to stop this. Anyone can do it, at any time. Personally, I don't see a problem with it; the images are linked back to DPC, no attempt at passing them off as his own, he's posting stuff he's found that he likes and showing us where it came from.

His TASTE is atrocious; at least 3 Rikkis and NO Bear_Musics, but bad taste was never a crime :-)

Personally, I'd let it go. But I'm easy....

Now, that's absurd, on the face of it; this is a DPC member who's linking/posting the entire challenge results on his/her own site. I can't figure out what's going on here, LOL.

What did they just cut and paste the whole DPChallenge site in there? I think that is a little deja vo ish. How many peoples work are at that site everyone's?

Look what I found at that wierd site.

Photos-sg is not Dpchallenge.
Yes I do display on a regular basis the dpc winners but I'm not affiliated with DPChallenge.com.
If you're an author of one the picture displayed and don't want to be exposed on photos-sg just drop me a mail and I'll remove asap your picture. My goal is not to arm you but share your beautiful pictures with the people that share my passion.

Guess they are try to cover thier butts.

Here's our new friend: //www.dpchallenge.com/profile.php?USER_ID=46586

Just an enthusiastic afficianado, it appears.

(Of course, we're no longer talking about that other interesting topic which the OP brought to the forums....or are we?)

Home page excerpt (verbatim, but I added bold for emphasis):
"My goal is not to arm you but share your beautiful pictures with the people that share my passion."

That just seems like a good, common sense / self-preservation / survival policy. LOL

OMG! I found THIS ONE where the guy actually defaces our members' photos! Looks like he stopped doing it awhile back though - must've been our members' collective death threats. ;-P

The moment I find somebody using/stealing my pics - I will smile - it will then sow me that my pics are getting worth stealing.
