Anyone got experience with digital video capture - i.e MiniDV to PC?

Recently brought a digital video camera off my buddy, and quality is sublime when plugged straight into a TV, but transfering it to PC makes it look terribly awful

For some reason when my mate does it on his laptop the quality is perfect - and my computer is a lot more powerful than his laptop so i don't get it!

Any help most welcome!

My Sony Digital8 camcorder has two ways to link to PC USB and iLink (ie Firewire). The USB transfers are generally terrible, but the Firewire transfers come out great.

Not sure if this is your problem, but if you are linking via USB, you may consider the Firewire connection.
