I heard that the first mactel macine would probably be a new mini (OWC newsletter). I just hope we don't go through the lack of backward compatabilty like happened with OS9 to X.

iPhoto upgrade hasn't been free in many iterations; doubt this would be any different...

667MHz FSB, serial ATA and dual processors will smoke anything out there. This is definitely what I was waiting for. Something that will keep up with my G5.

*sighs*

How can this be? How can the Intel processors, you know the one's the G4/G5's were like 2-3x supposedly faster than now all of a sudden be 4-5x slower?

That's one thing that always irks me with Apple's marketing. Sure, can be "up to x times faster". It's that whole "up to" concept. So as long as one benchmark is faster than you can claim such. But to me it always seemed very misleading.

Mind you, I think Apple is making a very smart move with migrating to Intel and I am hopeful that they will become a bit more price competitive. Though somehow I doubt they will ever release a 17" fully loaded laptop for $1,400.

The Yonah processor is a new chip. It's not the same as older Pentiums, etc. which were slower than G5 chips at the same processor speed.

Yes, I think so, but Intel just announced it 5 days ago, so I don't know if it's in any shipping PCs yet. Regardless, that's just one component- the CPU. All the other goodies- built-in iSight camera, backlit keyboard, magnetic power cord, scrolling trackpad, optical digital audio, high-resolution 1440 x 900 pixel display, elegant form factor (and of course, OS X)- are what makes it special.
