I was lucky enough to see mother nature showing her amorous side today in the form of a brilliant red bird - male, I presume - doing a mating dance display for a pair of brown females. A splash of color in a gray rainy day :) .. Luckily, my camera wasnt far away so I grabbed it and got some shots.

I got a couple decent shots of the male and the whole group, and then I also got the sequence where the male is bobbing his head up and down - which I uploaded as small easy to load images. If you click the thumbnail below, you will get the first closeup. Click 'next' to see a couple more large images, and then keep going to see the sequence of the male doing his head bobbing dance.

Comments welcome. Also interested in seeing everyone else's lucky shots of critters! :)

Hey Mag,

The first two didn't load up for me but the rest of the smaller ones did. Nice captures btw. I like the series as a whole. It tells a good story :)

My "lucky" shots from the zoo yesterday :

Jillz, I love your penguin pic...
is there any chance you can crop it so only the left hand penguin is in the shot, in portrait orientation so that the penguin is in the right 3rd of the frame? And perhaps rotated... maybe something like this:

Except you'll be able to make a larger image!

great scott!

i guess that proves there's someone for everyone :)

Terry, that definitely *is* the wrong end. You really shouldn't point those at people :) ..

Dragonbro, thanks for the info on the bird species. It made my day to watch him do his dance.

CYK, that is just toooooo cute :).

Chinstrap, apparently you also witnessed an amorous display! <eyes pop out at insect lovin' :) > And mr. otter looks like he's trying to get a better look at something, craning forward, i almost expect him to fall in the next second ! :)

Thanks, anyone else got any other interesting or funny animal pics they wanna show off?

I still chuckle when I look at this one. Incidentally this is my first attempt at both putting a thumbnail and linking a file in a post, so hopefully it works!

magnetic9999 your first link is broken.

Anyway, the chicken belongs to my gf's family. There's more of them, I can't wait for the tiny chicks (little, yellow feathery furballs) to hatch one day. Hopefully I would have gotten a TCON-17 or something similar by then...
