Ok after everyones fantastic help with my question on the Nikon 995, I have been taking trips out of town to look at the different cameras that you all suggested. (The town I live in doesn't have access to much of anything) Anyway... I've decided on the Canon G2, yes... it's true. So now! I need to know what lenses and filters work on the G2. Not only the Canon ones, but other brands as well. Thanks!

Just so you know, there is a "hardware" forum and a "Q&A" forum, both of which are probably more appropriate than "current challenge" for this sort of question :)

Oops sorry, I thought I had clicked in the right place to post it there. I was trying to do two things at once.. not advisable I guess.

congrats on the choice ... best place to find advice for add-on lenses and filters for the G2 is to go to the DP Review Canon Forum and do some searches. There is tonnes of info and discussions there

eg try searches for 'lensmate' - a 3rd party adaptor
'tiffen' or 'olympus' - teleconverters and wide angle lenses

my advice - get an adaptor and uv filter first to protect your precious G2 lens. Then learn to use camera features before thinking about extra stuff

i have a G1 which is the same body as a G2. i bought the lensmate adapater and i love it - it's small, light, and gets the job done. you can read about it & order it here: //www.lensmateonline.com/

the only downfall is that when you have the adapter on and you aren't at full zoom, you are going to get a overcast from the adapter blocking the flash on the bottom right. it's more noticable in real close up shots. but i bought an external flash (and was planning on buying one, anyway) and that cured all problems i had with it.

otherwise, i use a variety of tiffen filters. start with a UV protector and a polarizer and work from there. i carry a few other filters around with me (red 25, diffusion, & a neutral density), but i rarely use them. the uv is on all the time and the polarizer is on a lot as well.
