I am very new to photography, and of course digital photography, and I was wondering what makes a photo "washed out" as some people would put it? I ask only because I received a comment about a photo of mine that looked to that person as washed out. What does this mean and what can I do to correct or prevent this from occuring? thanks

It typically means the picture is over exposed, or you've used the flash too close to the subject. You'd see this in bright areas having just a white appearance, rather than any fine details being visible.

I'd check your camera manual to see what it says about exposure controls or exposure compensation as a starting point.

I thought it reffered to Jimmy Page and Robert Plant :)

Yes, Gordon hit it right on the nail there. Washed out photos usually lack definition in mid range tones, portraits of people with completely white faces is a good definition of the term.

BTW Gordon your Treble Clef shot ruled, it was my fav of the bunch.
