I just came across this image from some years ago. I've mentioned I used to have a fishing tackle shop, used to do a lot of fishing? Anyway, here's me with a 282-lb yellowfin tuna; sushi, anyone?

For some reason that reminds me of Richard Dreyfuss in Jaws.

wonder how many cans of tuna that would make? like 4500? now that fish must have been a boost to the mayo industry! :D

I scanned this in from 4x6 print a long time ago, and I added the blue gradient sky cuz the old sky was gray and awful and I didn't really know what I was doing then; I used PS for graphic design, I wasn't doing photography at the time. If Ihad the original scan I'd have posted that, but I don't. I also used focus magic on it today to crisp up the details, and that seems to have accentuated the separation of heads from sky.

Regardless, it ain't about the picture, it's about the FISH jejeje™ I'm bragging on the FISH.

re: cans of tuna, we figure about 40% of the fish (by weight) is edible. So that's 140 lbs of good meat there. Figure 2.5 cans per lb (6 oz can) and you got roughly 350 cans of tuna on the hoof. But I didn't can it; I filetted iut and freezer-warpped it in 1-lb chunks, then froze them. This wasn't the only fish on that trip of course. I froze about 400 lbs of fish and gave away at least that much more. Froze more Wahoo than Tuna, actually, by weight; better-eating fish to my tastes.

Take a frozen chunk (first wrap is in foil, second wrap is freezer paper) and remove paper. Place, still frozen, in a pan in a 350-degree oven and bake for about 30-40 minutes. Cool, unwrap, and use as you would canned tuna, except it tatstes better.

I froze some of it as steaks and roasts, of course, but most of it as described above. My barbecues were very popular :-)

You probably still have 200lbs of it sitting in your freezer then?

This fish died around 20 years ago LOL. That's a MUCH younger me in the pictures. Back in San Diego I had a HUGE commercial freezer in my garage. Here I just have the reefer freezer...

Edit to add; had kids in school, and they ate a LOT of tunafish sandwiches and tuna casseroles; loved 'em both. Had to go fishing to restock that freezer every year :-)

400lbs is a lot of fish! I stand by my original statement... ;-)

I remember the first time I saw a photo of a tuna, I couldn't believe they were actually that big.

Responding to the comment that I "look like Richard Dreyfuss", people used to tell me that all the time 20-30 years ago. I never saw the resemblance, myself...

Damn, I never seen it that way before... But for sure, it was the "jaws dreyfuss" they were referring too, so... Thanx for the visual kick in the pants Ken; I guess I can see it now...
