Suggestion:

Add a 'preference' option that enables/disables a viewer's capability to add you to his/her favorite photographers list.
09/27/2005 06:21:09 PM · #2
why?
09/27/2005 06:23:05 PM · #3
Some people, like myself, do not wish to be part of a 'list'.

A mechanism which instills integrity cannot be fabricated as it has to come from within.

not disputing your viewpoint, just curious as to why you feel this way.

you are a great photographer that is getting acknowledgement. is not part of being a member here to receive criticism, but also accolades?

As you can see from another thread, the list is pointless for the most part and I, personally, would love to not be on it.

i'm curious...which thread makes you feel it is pointless to be considered one of someone's favorite photographers?

The ones where people beg to be added to your favorites list.

yes, but you weren't ever faved because you 'begged' so yours are legit.

i take my whole 2 people that have added me as saying 'hey, i acknowledge you've done some good work' and it inspires me to do more.

inspiration, not ego.

Exactly...same with profile views...I find that so pointless.
"Hey, look at my profile so that the number goes up...woot."

I agree. Offering bucks or gifts to be someones favorite is wrong......

Kinda' like saying paper is a pretty good thing to write on.
(though I do kinda' understand his point)

One of the sad things that is happening lately is there has been a huge shift in photographic integrity and values here in the last 6-12 months. Watching styles evolve from high-quality, emotive and photojournalistic shots to heavy-handed software-altered artistic displays has taken this site by storm. Each has their place in the world of photography and the arts, but seems so much anymore if a shot can't be made in the eye/mind of the photographer and in the camera, with only basic darkroom-type changes, then by all means let's punch in some filters and wow everyone.
I hope I am offending no one here, and I'll be the first to raise my hand that I have been guilty of doing the same too.

When I receive a comment from John, I hold it in very high regards. John has a unique eye for things and shares images here that lack a lot of wow factor, yet are images that would stand the test of time, stand on their own and stir the soul with their own wow factor.

Thanks John, for leaving some inspiring footprints on this site to follow, such as:

Why are you so concerned about the list. All skippy has done is bring a bit of fun to the site.

It's not about who has the most friends or who is the best, the favorites to me is all about your character. For example when I view someones profile one of the first things I do is to see who they have picked as a favorite you then can see what style and influence they like, it can tell you a lot about a person.

The intregrity of the of the favorites list was always flawed. It can't be a true indication of the most popular or best photographer, if thats what you see the list as.

That's fine. I'm just not into making a joke out of things that aren't intended to be joked about. I apologize for stating my opinion and desire. It's as much of a joke as anything else.

John: I have removed you from my favorites and I respect your decision although you certainly deserve to be there.

Humour is all about things that aren't intended to be joked about ie religion and politics. Try and see the funny side, being on the "list" is not that important.

As mentioned earlier I think "the list" is flawed in many ways but that is just my view.

I would remove you John but I did so last time you left the site! ;o)

I doubt this will reach many of your intended audience since many who favourited you have long, long been inactive.
