how come almost everyone used liquid.. isn't that a little outplayed?

i understand if one or two people did it.. and i know that no one knows what the other person is doing but it's getting a little boring looking at the same picture over and over..
hehe

im not saying this to sound mean or anything..just a simple opinion

Personally, I think there are some great entries using liquids. Granted, there are quite a few of them... Maybe great minds think alike after all :)

thats the typical thing to do though. as creative as it may be.. it really isnt

Again, there are some great shots of water, but two of them are not digital.

I'd completely agree with you here. My first few ideas all involved a liquid of some sort, probably because I'd seen it done so many times and always enjoyed seeing it.

Actually four or five photographs have been requested for disqualifcation due to evidence of being scanned. I plan on discussing this with Drew and coming to some kind of conclusion today.

while i agree there are quite a few liquid shots, seems to me all these comments fit the shots with people in them too ...just my opinion ;o)

I felt a few were scanned also so I have skipped them in voting until there is some type of answer:) One photo is either scanned or has a filter used on it for sure.

Filters are okay, but if you feel that a photograph was scanned, then PLEASE use the Recommend for Disqualification link and let your reason be heard.

A few days ago, there was a discussion about creativity, etc. One poster commented that for a beginner, the subject matter may not be real creative because he/she is just learning the "tech" part of photography. As for the other water shots, I don't know, but for mine, this is the case. I can honestly say that it was the first time I had ever gone beyond aim and shoot. It may be boring to look at, but please try to remember that behind some of the cameras are some very green amateurs. :-)

You are right on that point. That is the one reason I hate to be critical of average photos. There is a certain point where average is the best one can do. I don't want to discourage anyone. I am also very green behind the camera.

I count 26 water photos, plus milk and jack daniels. I guess we don't have to do a water challenge any time in the near future.

Or they may be casual "snapshot" types who just want to play with their digicam and have fun with it (like me). I'm not terribly creative, I still don't even know all of the settings on my camera (after a year and a half), and my camera isn't that great, either. That's why I'd eventually like to see challenges divided into camera type and/or photographer skill level.... :^)

I think we were spoilt by the quality and range of curve ideas, and are just having a whinge. We certainly aren't knocking the 'liquid' photos down - some of them are among my top scorers.

It was just unfortunate that (about) a quarter of the entries were based on similar ideas, but that's what happens when you don't know what everyone else is submitting.

If you are new to photography (like me), good on you for submitting ... we are all here to grow and learn, and I've found that no matter what you submit, some of the nice folk here are always ready to give you advice

I can't believe anyone would be so desperate to scan a photo and try to pass if off as one taken with a digital camera. That is so pathetic.

I am totally new to this, so the fact that my entry is getting some pretty low votes does not matter to me at all.... its all in the thinking and doing... at least I am thinking like a photographer now.

We've researched the photographs and feel that they aren't scans.

I think it's safe to say that any that are not disqualified have been deemed to not be scans and should be voted on as such.

I agree.

I just got a comment not about my photo but about the fact that there are to many water photos (of course my average dropped).. To tell you the truth I really don’t care how many photos of water there are,.. I’m proud of my image and would be just fine im last place, as long as I was challenged and excited about my photography... which I was and usually strive to be... Ok im done ranting..

After about 10 water photos, I stopped voting on water photos. I decided it would be best to go back and vote on them when my mind is clear and when I'm not sort of tired of the subject.

good on ya ... and ignore the comment writer ... I wonder if they submitted anything, or could they not think of any idea at all?

Hang in there... A lot of people here are judging your photos against the other photos rather than as an individual photo. This is unfortunate but it will happen. I also think lots of people may be rushing to finish the voting. Last week, Monday was my single largest vote receiving day. It slows down for the rest of the week. I believe that I have already received 25% of the total votes I will get this week.

A resonable voter commenting on your photos would not mention something like 'too many water photos'. This is IRRELEVANT to YOUR photo and the voter is taking out his/her frustration with the rest of the photos on you.

I really like some of the water photos! They did a great job at stopping the motion. Don't be so critical and just vote on how well they made the picture work for the challenge.
