No, I'm not getting that. It must be a Paypal issue. That's a good suggestion to log on there. I have only used Paypal for this site recently. Thanks for your help

Are you getting anything like that?

If not, you may want to log into your PayPal account directly, and confirm the status of the credit cards on your account. You might need to update an expiration date, for example.

Either way, it sounds like a PayPal issue.

Walk me through the process step by step. Please tell me exactly what you are doing at each step, and exactly what error messages you are receiving.

mod, if you have a credit card that exists outside of paypal, you may still be able to use a credit card without any difficulties. I don't know if you are in a similar situation to me or not.

What part of China do you live in? What is your bank? Do you speak Chinese? Do you have access to checks? Do you have a bank in another country? Do you have a local or a foreign credit card?

I'd like to point out that paypal is sometimes a necessary evil for some non-americans... there are two sides to this argument after all. What about having to have a visa / mastercard to pay? In the UK, paypal takes switch/maestro, which lets me pay for services on websites that would otherwise demand a credit card (i decided not to renew my credit cards this year, nothing but trouble). If it weren't for paypal, i wouldn't be able to pay for membership or dpcprints, or sell on ebay.

OK. I'm now officially stoked.

I'm going to be ridiculously happy for the rest of the day, possibly week.

A HUGE shout out to notonline. Heck of a guy! We need to have more like him.

PS. notonline is someone whom I have noted as a particularly straightforward guy in the forums and in his comments. I have already campaigned for more of this sort of honesty.

We can't have this sort of helpful community without guys who are open and balanced and forthcoming.

Three cheers for notonline - a real contributor.

Thanks

nsbca7, ROFL. if you actually did that, I'd be pretty stoked.

PS. I am not suggesting that DPC DROP paypal, just find other options.

BTW, for purposes of clarification, My problem with Paypal is RANT. My suggestion to unhitch for the purposes of making DPC available to more people internationally is WEBSITE SUGGESTION.

Clearly, sending a check is an option, but a lot of people can't be bothered. Hassle factor is still a factor.

For me, sending a check is a matter of getting checks sent from Canada so I can send a check to DPC. Seeing as I have never used checks before this is what I call hassle. Forgetting about it is easy to do as well. It's not seriously very high on my list of things to do as I go about town. I am not alone in this though, I assure you.

Paypal sucks. They took stole my money. The problem is that they're not regulated by the government so they do things their greedy way.

LIke any other tool, PayPal has its pluses and minuses. I too have had basically no problems with PayPal as a buyer (I have not used them as a seller). I do know there ARE problem areas though.
I really understand the frustration fo non-US residents when it comes to the PayPal thing. I hate to see the site losing out on folks re-upping for membership because of PayPal difficulties. I too hope that eventually we can move on from this payment strategy.

welli would have to say i am a paypal FAN (and have been a paypal member for about 6 years now). I have done thousands of ebay auctions, mostly selling, but lots of buying as well.. and haven't had a problem and it has saved me TONS of time and effort when considering the option of money orders or the like.

You will. hey hit me for a $117.00 from my account for a transaction that I never recieved a dollar from. Try getting it back.

Let's turn this around for a bit -- what would more accessable for you? I asked a while back if WorldPay (a part of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group) would be less troublesome on an international basis than PayPal. at 50-some views and no replies I figured it was a bit far afield for a photography site.

I had no particular reason for asking other than being curious if the banks elsewhere were more connected to the rest of the world than those here in the USA. There is a, I'm afraid, a very strong tendency for isolation here. But, my curiosity seems to have a more immediate application in this thread. :D

Pretty funny that people are mentioning my credit.

Uhm I have a $0 balance on my credit card. I pay my bills immediately.

Can't see why a 30 dollar transaction could be an issue. I think I mentioned earlier that all transactions I have attempted to make through paypal have been denied, some resulting in a frozen account and ALL have been WELL within my credit limits as stated by them.

The issue is that their fraud protection program cuts people like my out of the loop and they cannot or are not willing to override such automation.

I wonder if I should start calling them SkyNet... Where's John Connor when you need him.

Or Arnold Schwarzenegger for that matter...

Neuferland. I'm glad you have never had a problem. You profile shows you as a resident of NY. I believe my point in this thread is that Paypal ONLY works well for residents of their home country and works best for Americans in America. It works like Da PooPoo elsewhere.

I was told by Paypal that I fit their Profile for fraudulent users. Therefore, every time I make a transaction, it calls the fraud alert. They would not tell me HOW I fit that profile nor why I would still fit that profile after going through their security checks MULTIPLE times.

The fact that I talked to four different people at their offices as well as they had called my home in Canada with security questions and I set up a conference call for that and they have every single peice of personal information about me that they could possibly have including what they call "instant" access to my bank account which was verified by test transactions................... ought to bespeak that fraud alert.

This is why I feel that Paypal is discriminatory and should not be the sole manner of access to this website.

DrAchoo. I hear ya on the Realplayer. Quicktime too!

I should repeat that I live in Taiwan and the bank services are a little different here. Many services are not offered to foreigners. Most banks (I belong to the biggest bank in Taiwan and go to the main branch in Taipei for service) also do not have english speaking representatives. I can manage OK with the Chinese, but it's hassle factor.

I will check into it eventually, but I usually don't have time to get down to the bank more than once every 4-6 months.

I guess my point is that I just wish there was a more convenient way than having to go through paypal or use these other methods. As I gather more photos that I actually like, I will likely feel more of a need to get a membership here.

I use my credit card elsewhere on line and also have it registered at paypal..Not sure why they would do that..I think it has more to do with your credit limit or lack of..you many want to check on that.

Don't think it is a credit limit problem. It has more to do with PayPal collecting a fee for the transaction; and with PayPal collecting information about your, and your vendor's, transactions that they can sell.

Just in case anyone doesn't know it already, PayPal is owned by Ebay. And one of the reasons that PayPal is not available in many countries is that most countries have stricter consumer protection and privacy laws than the USA where such laws are particularly lax.

I hear you about PayPal. I don't like anything that invades the way you do things. I refuse to use RealPlayer because it's a many-tentacled monster which practically takes over your computer when you install it.

OTOH, I don't really see why getting a money order for twenty-five dollars at your local bank or grocery store and mailing it is a problem. You've waited this long to become a member, so what is another 2-3 weeks if it actually takes that long to mail it via snail mail?

The only thing I can think of is that the $25 bucks is not available, and in that case I wouldn't recommend becoming a member.
