Very cool pix, Brad. Thanks for sharing ... Just for the record, the spookiness does show through the images. They are almost post apocolyptic in attitude.

I really enjoyed this tour ... thanks ...

"intelligence"

we already knew I'm dumb

I shot this heading East on I10 back in August:

It is being maintained, as the graffiti is being painted over.

And yes Sonya, Intelligence - you were smart enough NOT to go there.
Probably would have been the day the caretakers(?) had their trained attack Dogs and Pigeons at the ready.

Mannnn, I always dream of finding somewhere like this! Best I've done so far is a little 1800's stone church :(

I am glad you revived this thread. I just went there this afternoon, but it seems a little more cared for and my photos are not as haunting as yours.

I could not drive through the ditch as it has been redug to a very deep level. I walked across the huge field (parking lot??).

Most are not so good, but I did manage to process 4 of them.

Yay - fresh pixels, hot off the press.

Did you get up close, especially around the back side by the freeway? Still weird echoes there, especially when the semis are slowing down? What's really cool, is when you are cautiously walking around it, then suddenly the birds all take off at once! - sheesh - I was NOT ready for that noise!

Guess all cleaned up is isn't quite as skeery looking anymore.

Oh - and the ditch? Just go really really fast - you'll make it - uh huh - right....

I got very close and walked all around it. It was very quiet, not a bird to be heard. Sort of spooky, I keep expecting a caretaker to show up and throw me off the property. It was not nearly as good of a photo adventure as you had, the grass is long dead, most of the graffiti is cleaned up.

I would trade this trotter park for an 1800's stone church any day!
The older, the better, I always say.

It's a shame they don't do something with it. It would make a great concert venue or something. I used to drive by that place everyday when I worked out in litchfield.

Like most living in the Phoenix metro area I've driven by the park right beside I-10 on the way to or from California many times and thought of it as an interesting photo opportunity.

Sadly, I never photographed it.

I was on my way to CA from Phoenix in 1989 and saw this place and stopped and photographed it then, oddly it didnt look much different than it does now. I always wondered what it was, and thanks to this forum I now have my answer !

Thanks !

Phoenix Trotter Park is in the movie "No Code of Conduct" starring Charlie and Martin Sheen. Here's a link to the Trailer on YouTube. The end of the trailer features some exciting footage of the Trotter Park. Enjoy!

I used to drive past the place everyday, back in 1990, while I was working at Palo Verde. At the time the local (at the plant) legend was that it was a stillborn dog track. Story at the time was that it had been built with Mafia money, and that the state found out a few days before the grand opening, and yanked the liscence "forever". Interesting how failure stories can get twisted so quickly. Failed trotter track gets bought by dog track owner, turns into Mafia dog track banned forever.

You have to have posted a certain number of times to the forums before you can link; it cuts down on spammers.
