Hey everyone (again),

If possible, i would like some comments on my submission for the Light challenge. Again, ive had a few comments, and some are very inspiring. But id like to hear more about what is good or bad about it.

Ive got a good bunch of negative comments on the frame (20x20 black) and i think i understand why. If anyone have suggestions about it as well, it would be greatly appreciated!

Grazie!

Frame aside, it's an attractive image but not an extremely compelling one. There's an overall sense of chaos to it, for me. The light refractions are just so extreme, too, that they get in the way of my "seeing".

Toooo much contrast in this case for my taste and the tonal range for the water is far too limited because of this. A polarizing lens might have helped this image but I can't say it would have for sure.

Interesting way to approach my foto. I felt the idea behind it was to convey the idea of , so with a picture with this kind of brightness, i figured it would punch in this exact feeling of blindness. As a second way of seeing the picture, i made it a little religious with the bird (cormoran) stretching its wings, as would an angel, which also represent Light.

I find it strange that the comments so far have said the imagine was when that was exactly the goal of my submission. On the other hand, i understand what is being said regarding contrast, which makes the picture almost monochrome. Ive had some good comments from friends regarding this effect, while here on dpc.com, lots do not appreciate it.

Ive never worked with UV or Polarized lens filters, so i dont know what it would look like then, but for some reason, i think it wouldve given a very faded look to this picture, which was certainly not the intension.

Thanks a lot for the comments, im currently playing with the orignal picture to see what i can come up with.

Hows the Frame?, i didnt realise how big it was up until now... i shouldve went with a 10x10 instead of 20x20... The idea behind the flat black was to give a little *humph* to the bird, but i honestly think i over compensated a little *blush*.

Keep em coming!

Ciao!

Could someone please explain to this novice what this means? What is frame exactly?

Guroos,

He has a black border around the image, 20 pixels wide. He's saying he should have reduced the size of it by half, to 10 pixels wide. "Border" and "frame" are roughly synonymous in this context, although properly a frame would be "detailed" and a border would be a single strip of color.

Many thanks Robt,

If I might be allowed to have a similar whinge to redoak. My first 4 challenges were crap and I didn't need comments to tell me why.

However, my light challenge pic received 5 comments, all good, and while I did not expect to ribbon, I knew it was my best so far and I did think it would do better than 5.7

Can someone please shed "Light" on how I might have improved this.

Guroos,

I don't think it's a matter of "improving" the picture; typically, "cute" doesn't fare well in the voting. Beat the pants off my very serious "luminous ice", anyway, so be happy :-)

For what it's worth I gave it 7!
