Not sure if I should get a cheap one or something that has more features...

Thoughts?
Links to the one you have?

depending on your camera model, there might be an app.

depending on what you want to do, you might not want to go cheap. google up pluto. that puppy has a lot of goodies. that's what i have, but i'm feeling to lazy to look for the link ;-)

I've read these kill the batteries of the camera because it's always "searching" for the cable release. And I just want it for long exposure shots for landscapes and things when using an ND filter.

Certainly there would be additional drain on the battery using WiFi... I can't imagine that it would be of great concern except for long sessions at low temperatures, e.g. night sky imaging at high altitude. Big advantage is *no* physical contact with the camera, thus no transmitted vibration.

I picked up the "pulse" from Alpine Labs on a kickstarter about a year ago. I haven't used it much, but it's pretty robust. Connects to the USB port, and essentially uses the teathered shooting controls. Not cheap, but not expensive, and it has the benefits of being able to keep your hands off the camera and change settings.

They have some competition, but I haven't used any.
