Thanks for a very timely suggestion, Don. If I had anything to add, it would be that we TRY to strike a balance between 3 broad categories of challenges:
1. Subject: This would be stuff like "Wildlife", "Landscapes", "Blue", "In the Marketplace", and so forth.
2. Technique: Things like "High Contrast", "Rule of Thirds", "Long Exposure", "Macro", "Portrait", stuff that involves how we use our cameras or our software.
3. Concept: This category is for intangible stuff, ideas, etc like "Politically Incorrect", "Ordinary", "Sorrow", "Joy", less definable concepts as it were.
Obviously, sometimes a topic won't fall cleanly into one of those categories, such as "In the Style of: David Muench" (is that technique or a concept) but this doesn't really matter; the categories are just a good way to keep challenges variegated.
Also bear in mind that many (if not most) of the really relevant Technique Challenges have been run before, often many times, and there's nothing wrong with that; even professional concert musicians still practice their scales :-) DPC has been around for what, almost 16 years now? It's just not possible for every challenge going forward to be unique, or at least not if we don't want them all to be "niche" challenges, so to speak.
