well i would like to invite veryone who is interested to a new stock photo agency i have found.
make .20 dollar per download. memebrs can download unlimited pictures for about 90 bucks a month. so profitibility may be up there. i have been uploading. they have such better uploading system thasn dreamstime and istock where you upload batches of pictures at once. very intuitive. highly suggested

here is where to sign up Sell your photos at Shutterstock!

cool man, thanks for sharing that one. gonna start uploading my stock library to them right now! thanks!

The upload process is nice.
However, most of my stuff is not 2MP+ (required). I intentionally filter my images, which makes the file size smaller. This is good for iStock,Dreamstime, and CanStock that don't offer batch uploading. But disqualifies them for ShutterStock.

I started uploading some to this site today also... any idea how long they take to approve images? I like the price model on this site quite a bit. It could potentially work very well. I'm just curious if they will be able to maintain that price structure.

If a buyer subscribes for a month at $90, they can download all they want during that month. The photographer gets $0.20 for each file downloaded. If that month subscriber downloads more than 450 images, the site loses money. If I was in the market to buy stock photography, I would join this site for a month and download all I could and add it all to my image library... I'm just curious if this will hold up over time :)

I was thinking the same thing. In the beginning it may be good for the photographer because people will likely just download everything on the site seeing as they're paying for it and there wont be too many images on there. If they're paying photographers more than they are making from subscribers then the service isnt going to last for long.

That's why it says the current cut per photo is 20 cents...As the site begins to grow (it seems they barely have 450 photos now), the price must go up or the costs come down!

Great incentive to start (for buyers and photographers)...I'm just wondering who will get hit once they have all your photos!

Do you have to subscribe to upload?

I e-mailed them to ask if photos can be removed from their website or if I can probhibit further sale at any point after they've been uploaded.

Until then, I won't submit as their current model can't last. It's an enticement to get people started, so I want to make sure my photos aren't available at 5 cents a piece in the future without ensuring my ability to remove them from the site.

Their FAQ's and their Terms of Service don't address this question, as far as I can tell...

The business model is interesting. i'm assuming they're banking on it the same way services like netflix do. people pay the price per month and think "oh boy i'm gonna download everything..." and they do, for a short time... then after they get tired of it they have downloaded more than they need, and the company recoups the original losses... which seems to work for netflix.

the other side too is that for 90 dollars, an advertising company or something like that, can get unlimited downloads of high quality images.. some months they may need more, some months less.

It seems pretty decent so far, would be cool to see if it takes off.

After asking shutterstock about being able to remove photos...I received a quick response:

We are adding this functionality within the next few days - but if you need
to remove any before then, you can just email me with the image IDs and I
will remove them ASAP... But, within 3-4 days, that functionality should be
there - my programming is working on it as we speak.
Jon

So I'll begin submitting...I'm going to ask him about what they expect to do in the future, though. Just out of curiosity.

More information from shutterstock:

Hey Mike - we have been running this site for a couple of years now - and
even though users can download as many images as they would like - we have a
good average indicator... The payout for submitters is priced to be exactly
half of what we make! We are therefore set to payout equally with our
submitters.

Also - if we need to - we will raise prices for subscribers of
ShutterStock.com as the library gets bigger and bigger...

We do NOT plan to change the payout to submitters. But if we do (and again,
we don't expect to), you will be have 30 days notice to remove photos - or
continue. They are YOUR photos - we will not have them there if you don't
want us to have them there..

Also - some subscribers may download 400 photos - while others download
1-2... Some download 5, etc... It all evens out! :)

Jon

It looks like the average subscriber downloads 225 photos/month...this setup kind of changes the dynamic as the subscriber is free to download as many photos as he/she wishes, so it would be beneficial as a photographer to upload several different 'takes' or angles of the same subject.

Here's why:
If the subscriber likes one of the photos (of a green cat, for example), they're more likely to simply download all 18 photos of the green cat you photographed in order to find the one that he/she likes best and will actually go ahead and use...make sense?

Edit: The website may limit this tactic, however, as it would not be beneficial to them...

I just signed up so when I get home I will upload some myself...I just wish I could see how many times other people's photos have been downloaded (like on istockphoto) so I could get a feel for how active this site is...
