I'm averse to suggest changes to a blue ribbon winning image, but since you asked, I have a slightly different vision of this scene...

No squirrels?!

OR GODZILLA?!?

That's just wrong.

Definitely couldn't just crop in from the right. It would have had to been Nam's type of crop, but I think that is too tight. The larger view gives the feeling of it just going on and on.

Pink Lady is distracting, but short of teleporting her, I'd leave her in.

Would she have been less noticeable if the image were flipped horizontally? (after all, Penny's the one that made me remember to look at flipping)

to be honest, I think there are arguments on both sides worth hearing, but the biggest thing is the balance with the umbrellas - cropping her out would have absolutely changed the flow of the picture and would not have had the native draw that this does.

The fact that the two in the foreground are paying attention to each other while clearly *SOMETHING* is happening outside of the image that is taking the attention of the lady in pink is a positive in the sense of "these two are in their own little world, in an idyllic looking setting, having ice cream on a lovely summer evening".

tl;dr: I think it was right to leave her in as an anchor, and because of the umbrella parallels.

I like this a lot, RyanW

Did anyone consider this option? Edit... just saw Wendy's post. At least SHE considered it.
