I am not typically into wildlife photography but this collection captivated me. He must have so much patience......

Enjoy!

I don't like these photographs. I don't consider them to be wildlife photographs at all, just very competent photographs that happen to be of animals.

Unlike Sarah salmiakki I am into wildlife photography: I have little choice given where I live.

Wildlife photography should reveal something real about the nature of the animal, and ideally about its environment too. These photos do the opposite; they separate the animal from its environment and from its essence, creating a pretty but vacuous caricature. And it's a one-recipe show as well. There are over 50 photos on the linked page, and none offers anything that isn't present in all the rest. He could as well have posted just one of them, rather than all 50-odd.

Having said all that, I admit that Mr Spranz is a much better photographer than me, but his photographs of animals could just as well be photographs of soup cans or wristwatches.

Good points ubique and when you so eloquently explain your view I can't disagree with a word you said.

I still however quite enjoy them.

Yep. I love a good wildlife photographer, and like Paul if you look at my portfolio you can see I shoot a lot of wildlife.

Any of these photos on their own would something to aspire to. But when seen as a collection I can't help but get the feeling that these are far from "wild" and could perhaps be either in a preserve of some kind or even pets. The low to the ground, immense amounts of faked blur look with props conveniently in reach looks nothing but staged, particularly with the berry shots. They're like animal portraits, and I'm OK with that, but to call him a "wildlife photographer" is an insult to anyone who has waiting hours for something to emerge from hiding in hope that you can squeeze off one frame before it disappears.

In fact that may have made for an even more interesting collection.
