I was riffing off the OP's comments regarding copying.
I had absolutely no intention of identifying anyone's photography
to suggest anyone copied an image.
And trying not to put my foot any further into my mouth, I certainly
did not mean (for example) PennyStreet's image
when I know perfectly well she does things in her own excellent way and no other way.

Alice, please accept my apology, I guess I am just feeling sensitive to the subject of copying so I read more into what you wrote than was intended.

This whole thread doesn't make sense to me... hope we can leave it at that.

I started it because I wondered how deep people actually dig into a profile / portfolio when an "In the style of ..." challenge comes up. It seems (to me anyway) that what scored highest most recently for that photographer has a higher percentage of being "emulated".

Wendy, I couldn't re-create the tulip either. It was against the most lovely piece of glass window in my bathroom in Germany, with lovely low European light. And I generally have no clue what my processing steps are after I've closed the file.

I approached it from an opposite angle: instead of digging deep into a particular portfolio (in this case, Deb's), where you can find many very different things, I dug into my impression of her work, and tried to "emulate" that rather than a particular shot or shots. I think this may work better at distilling a style, at least subjectively.

This is what I did as well. I deliberately *refrained* from returning to Deb's portfolio (one with which I have become very familiar over the years) and instead tried to channel "essence of Deb" into my photography. According to the voters, I failed: but what do THEY know? JejejeĀ®

Deb's work is so much about feeling and capturing a spirit that it really would be difficult to reproduce any of her images exactly.

You gave it a pretty good shot though and it paid off well with a 2nd place finish. :-)
