Rather sobering, especially when one magnifies this by however-many-millions it takes to produce a full season's output, globally.

this is an awesome essay. The dismaying reality makes me feel ... kind of flummoxed. Is it better to buy cheap Christmas decoration from China to preserve jobs or is it better to restrain from buying to protect the environment and in order to impede the working conditions?

When dealing with red snowflakes I'd lean towards the planet over its occupants.
