Is this talking about the current state of the world?
08/03/2016 05:44:31 AM · #2
I dunno; surely the world requires extended editing? Jejeje®

I think this could potentially be the lowest scoring challenge. Not only is mess unattractive, we only got minimal editing to achieve it...will be no Eye candy For sure.

Still, I keep saying this is a Digital photography challenge, and we need to rise to the occasion!

The world is what it always was, perhaps a bit more peaceful and prosperous, despite coverage of every stubbed toe.

More importantly, what is more poetic than a beautiful mess?

Yes, Extended editing would be helpful for a World Mess challenge, but thanks for making me check. MINIMAL EDITING. Hopefully, I won't forget that between now and submitting an entry.

whoa -- I didn't realize it was minimal! Thanks!

I have the perfect mess in mind (I just cleaned the other mess, so that one's out), and now I have an idea of what to do since it's minimal editing... cool!

Sheesh, we even put a FLAG on it to alert to the Minimal rules...

You know I don't bother looking until the last day, since I don't shoot until the last day. :)

Actually I think the flag here is a bad idea, since this is being run under the "Minimal-as-written" rule set -- i.e. no cropping, 90°-increment rotations only ... I think flagging a Minimal challenge should be reserved for instances where those restrictions are waived.

My current job relies heavily on my strength at seeing all the little details. Scarily, in the past year I must have passed some magical age life experience threshold and I find the details harder and harder to notice. I missed the last notice that a challenge was minimal and I probably wouldn't have noticed the yellow flag had it not been for this helpful thread. Can the flag blink and glow neon?

I disagree; I think we should flag ALL minimal challenges because the consequences are too severe if you don't notice the "unusual" ruleset. With Extended, on the other hand, anything that would be legal in Minimal OR Standard is still legal, so the urgency is not there.

I think all challenges should be flagged...with different colors! Green for Extended, Blue for Standard, Red for Minimal. Extra yellow flags when there is a different rule in play.
This would make it so much more visually identifiable which ruleset is being used.

And for color blind folks, doesn't have to be just color. Could be the size of the flag or shape or a little design in the middle of the flag (two plus symbols for extended, one plus for standard, one minus for minimal)

Hey, Minimal might be zero editing, but there's no need to go into negative numbers ... :-)

But I appreciate the shout-out to us color-blind folks -- red, blue and yellow should work though ... maybe a white flag for minimal.

Maybe we can resurrect the tag.

A bit hard to get the "neon" effect at that size and with the limited palette (Indexed color) of GIF files ...

And I thought it was just me that tended to overlook the Minimum ruleset...

Thanks for trying. The pink is quite lovely.

wait, there's a Mimimum ruleset?
08/04/2016 11:54:42 PM · #22
Well, at the least there's a minimum awareness that the minimal ruleset has been flagged on this challenge. You'd THINK a bright yellow flag would be obvious to people, and an adequate signal that there's SOMETHING they need to read there?

I'm in, but minimal is so minimal. I always forget one of the settings you need for this :(

You have a mode dial on your 7D, and you can use it to store custom settings. I set up all my minimal parameters (contrast, ISO, Aperture Priority, saturation, everything I want to set, plus auto-bracket in 1/2 stop intervals 5 exposures, set it for JPG) and save it as C1 on my Sony. Now all I have to remember to do is move the dial for minimal and I'm good to go :-)

I'm in, minimum is good and I do believe I can find a mess somewhere. Hah!
