And... I composed it early on in the month...

Waited almost the entire month to see how it was gonna score. Ha!

Now I know. :D

I love life...

I had one earlier but swapped it out for something quite late in the month. I like it a lot so I don't much care that it's not faring that well.

I have voted but not bumped or commented. I did enjoy the wide variety - I think it's nice that entries run the full gamut from "What's 'extended/expert' about this?" to "Wow, now that's clearly 'extended/expert'", and I gave my top scores to all sorts of entries.

I actually had some warped people liking my last minute, kludge something together shot. But now people are catching on. At 6.2, but only because of the early crazy, warped, easily fooled, nice people. :)

Disappointing but a big improvement on the 4.5556 I had after 18 votes.

Okay, I signed up I think in March and I'm still finding my way around. These questions may sound silly to you that have been long standing members but, how can one get so many views and so few votes. Do people enter challenges and never vote? Are there that many people who study our entries or do they go back and rethink how they've voted? Do you get the extra views when you check on your photo? I really would like to know how this happens. I do understand there are thousands of members who may never participate but may keep up with what's going on. :D

Do people enter challenges and never vote? Yes, sadly this seems to happen more and more. there've been a lot of discussions about this the most recent being If you don't vote, you don't count

Are there that many people who study our entries or do they go back and rethink how they've voted? Yes, I think this happens quite often. Even if vote adjustments do not happen, people may look at the image more than once.

Do you get the extra views when you check on your photo? No, you do not get extra views if you look at your own image.

I look at each image at least twice before/after I vote. Some images I look at many times on different days as I try to think of something to put in a comment. If I comment, I might go back to edit my comment. The more I like the image, or if I'm wondering how it was done, the more often I go back to look at it again. If I don't like it much, I don't go back much.

On the other hand, I think there might be some people who only look once, to vote, & never go back.

It is a proven fact that, on a regular basis, less than half of the persons who submit to a challenge vote.

I view all images at least twice. All images get a vote (unless I'm out of town and don't vote at all as happened once recently).

The views do not change when you open your own image.

I do understand there are thousands of members who may never participate but may keep up with what's going on.
It seems there are lots of people who view (and some vote) but never enter. The more the merrier.

Thank you and pixelpig for answering my questions. I do go back myself and study the shots and still check to see if I'm thinking along the same lines as everyone else with my photos. :)

I entered the photo of the frogs. I had to adjust each frog. Other than that I didn't do anymore than layer and add the light effects. I suppose if I had taken a photo of real frogs I would have done better. I'm still learning Photoshop. How about you? How extended was your photo?

Mine was only two pictures (mural/sign and truck), though the lighting and overall look make it seem (to me) like the sign was added.

Mine was 100% standard editing.
06/22/2016 06:28:16 PM · #21
I would have been nervous to put mine in under standard editing because I had to remove and darken the background, mostly behind her. She was positioned in front of a black wall, though, so the profile part was standard. SC has gotten more lenient in terms of what I did, I think, since the new rules came into effect, so I might have been fine.

I'm more curious whether it was the "looks like standard editing" or "goodness, this is DARK!" or what that held it back. If anyone cares to speculate, here or on the image, I wouldn't mind at all.
eta I didn't think it was front page material, but I did think it would do better than the bottom quartile.

"Goodness, it's completely out of focus."

That's my take as well. The darkness is "just right" for me, the rim lighting is excellent, but nothing seems sharp, nor does it seem intentionally soft in any meaningful way. Is that Beetle, BTW?
