So, was the Master's challenge worth while, now we have the results and the scores?
Personally I'd give it a huge thumbs up, and congratulations to all those who entered, no matter where you came. It is definitely the most stunning collection of photos I have ever seen here at one time.
As for scores ..... I have never broken the 7.0 mark. In some challenges even the Blue is in the 6's.
With the Master's challenge you get to 28th place before you get below 7.0 and all very well deserved indeed (and that does not negate anything under 7 as they are stunning as well.
So ... a success as an exercise?
I certainly think so :)

Well, tastes differ, and we all know that.. but I'm not the happiest person with the end results.. lol.
Too many of my favorite shots finised *WAY* lower than they should have.
But I suppose it's like that with any challenge.
To me.. there could have been about 5 or 6 ties for the blue in this one (and only BradP's is actually in the top 10).
Good job from pretty much everyone though.. if there's ever another one, I'd hope I can be in it.

| I didn't get to vote for many, I became a full member last night, but what I did vote for I think rarely went below a 7. Amazing! |

| If it had not been a "Masters" Challenge...the scores would not have been that High....take the name off it ...and I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts...the scores would have been lower... |

Obviously what I meant to say was "Wow, did you see how many shots scored above 6.936 ....." ;)

Well, I have mixed emotions. This was certainly a fun contest, and I ended up pretty much where I think I should have, and there were certainly some very fantastic works here, that's for sure. But we didn't really change anything except take out the non ribbon winners, and so eliminated some of the lower scores. I mean, many of us are contributing to challenges, even free study challenges all the time, and we find our shots mixed in or on top.
Did the hype for this challenge create higher scores? I certainly feel that the scores were well deserved--and usually feel that most winners' scores should be higher--
I just thought the hype for this challenge was a very interesting element.
--Gosh, do I sound like a curmudgeon? I don't mean to! Congratulations to all--I truly believe that all were great photos.

one of the best benefits from this challenge is the wealth of well considered comments that were given to all the images. It is a terrific educational opportunity to browse through the comments.
Congrats to everyone and thank you to all who had so many kind words to say about my entry.

Yes it did. Many of these shots just became some of the highest-rated images on DPC. I don't think that would have been the case in a "regular" Free Study. |

I would have to agree with this. And that other than the "masters", no one was thinking their votes would affect their own scores. But I truly believe that the perception of these being "master's" shots altered the voter's judgement and scoring.

I am not sure I agree with the high scoring theories here, but could be wrong.
If I look at any of the top 20+ entries I can easily see them as being a blue in other challenges, which is reflected in the scores.

I'm surprised by the top few results, but congratulations are deserved nonetheless to most/all of you. You are superb photographers.
Edit:
Okay, I can't help myself...What the heck happened to "Megalomania" and "Interlude"!!!! Those are the best two photos in there!

I don't think the name of the challenge had anything to do with the ratings. It's just a whole challenge of really GREAT work. You can't help but compare mentally one photo to antoher when you rank it, and with this one, they were all great photos!!!!!

Yup, but even with her scale, how could you rate the blue winner a one? At anyrate, it's done, it was a great learning experience for all of us... it was terrific, really. I am humbled to be in the company. |

yes, it was worth it and agonising as well.
worth it because i enjoyed looking and commenting and learnign from all those high quality images.
worth it because of the 104 comments I received
and agonising because my image had been around 7.5 the whole week and the lowest score for a yellow ribbon so far was 7.44. I realised average score would probably be high but still, you can have hope can't you ? it was fun, even ending up on 12th |

Maybe they don't like seeing obviously over-processed images in a photography contest.
Just a thought.

Does anyone actually think we learned anything from this?
Is it possible to get a break-down of voting? I would be very interested to see what the scores would be like if only 'masters' votes were counted, and so on.
With it being open to all members to vote, we ended up with a challenge full of shots intended to do well on dpc - as a whole, we were successful, but as Bobster has posted in his thread, I don't think many people actually posted their favourite shot of the month.
And I do think the hype generated the scores: there's no way my shot would have broken 7 in a normal free study.
