Interesting. Possibly another DPL related thing as well. I know I looked at my teammates images a few times during the challenge but obviously couldn't vote. If not that, than maybe a "thumbnail view" type thing. If the thumbnail is difficult to see well, maybe it gets more views as a larger image?

i plotted it against the number of comments received to to see if maybe the images with more comments would be raising this number and that not really conclusive, although the higher scoring images do have more views during the challenge than the lower scoring ones.

As a dad of 3 kids in a hectic household it often happens that I am voting / commenting on a challenge and I get pulled away ... Then I forget to finish voting.

some other ideas:

1) Have a reminder larger reminder message alerting users to finish voting on their home page.

2) Email a reminder for users to finish voting. THis can be a preference that would help forgetful people like myself.

3) Reward people who vote on more than 90% of images (in case they cannot vote on an image or 2 due to knowing the image or as a SC member who previewed the image) with:
a) the opportunity to apply decimal votes to images to allow for favorites to rise above others in that given challenge. (ie: 6.0, 6.5, 6.7, 7.0, 7.5)
and/or
b) credit toward getting into a special monthly challenge for people who vote on a certain percentage of the prior month's challenges.
-- just some ideas ...

Perhaps indeed the easiest trick right now to raise the vote, even if by a little, would be to raise the 20% to say 50%. For starters at least? Maybe worth a try on a few challenges and see what happens.

Certain people need to simply understand this.

We rocked it

Nuff said.

I think Wendy got it right, we have great talent in our team (I am the worse of us all) and we had a great week in a challenge that had fewer entries than in other DPL related challenges. Regardless, we are where we are on MERIT! no dullskuggery involved, so maybe those who consider us cheats should take a long look in the mirror.

Our team consists of honest decent people who would never think of voting decent images lower just incase it was from an opposing team... bloody cheek!!!!

You guys did an amazing job. I don't think anyone has a realistic argument that there is any cheating going on. But the truth is, when there aren't enough votes, the results can become volatile and swing as a result of a single click.
I'm always wanting DPC to improve and I think something needs to be done to get more users / votes - but I'm not sure how affective the get satisfaction page is as moving this along. Well intended though I suppose.

Yeh man, I understand that, it can swing the vote for or against ...

I would love to see DPC grow again and this is why I always recommend running a league like DPL, it's not for everyone I know but the participation certainly goes up 5 fold when its running so might be an idea to run the league regular, also, no other site has a league system, we could maybe include winners/RU/places get small prizes, even something like being able to select any image from the DPL term as a print or whatever...

I would be very happy to help out any way I can to make this site work as it has always been an inspiration for me & those I introduced.

I agree with Ursula, as you said MAK, you guys rocked it - well done!

I do think this thread was more about the swing in votes with so few of them rather than any cheating, however, it had been mentioned in other threads but that was probably sour grapes (you guys all ready for the dope testing?).

Right. Y'all need to report to GeneralE out on the Left Coast: his clinic has the contract for DPC Drug Testing :-)

FWIW research on Silicon Valley companies found worker productivity higher at those which did not have routine drug-testing policies ...

I might fail that but I was the worse player on the team....

It's truly sad when the final DPL challenge garners 74 entries and averages only 61 votes per entry. I received only 10 votes in the last 48 hours, and with a single exception I'm thankful for every one of them - the last 2 in particular.

Here's to hoping the next DPL sees consistent participation equal to the first couple weeks and not the last couple.
