And looking back it probably would have done better than what I entered....which wouldn't have taken much :)

more whining ... ;)

Back to the original topic....is there a losers bracket to determine who gets 3rd place?

08/18/2015 10:44:00 AM · #79
oooh, that would be cool.

I would imagine that would be the idea.

It does not seem that way though ...

Yeah - one more week where we all can complain about what we have to shoot. ;)

Given what I've heard about voting in the playoff rounds, the restrictions against voting on your teammates images is still in place so even if there wasn't an "official" bracket for it teams could decide to do it on their own if folks wanted to do another week of this.

I do have one question about the final round - it seems to start tomorrow with whatever topic gets announced tonight rather than starting with the Sunday-into-Monday topic like previous rounds. Is that correct? If so, if match results are close after tonight's results are posted I would think that it would make sense to plan to shoot anyway just in case validation boots an image and results change. Even if all the DPL images are OK a DQ of another image can change the results by raising all lower positions up one or more set of percentage points.

you are already in it.

Yea, I noticed that...was hoping it was an error and not based on pre-rollover calculations of the Shopping Cart results.

I can see 3 possibilities:

1) another round to determine third place (would be the recommended way to go to avoid the possibility of DQ's from the prior round possibly changing whether a team makes it to the final round anyway).

2) The team who scores highest (of the losing teams) in the round currently in voting would be third place

3) There is no acknowledgement or recognition of 3rd place and we forever live wondering "what if" ... ;)

I see no point in keeping it a secret that our team will likely not move on given the current scores (and assuming there is no catastrophic DQ scenario).
But it would be nice to battle another round for third place.

There is currently no provision in DPL coding to include a playdown bracket for 3rd place. It WOULD be nice to have one :-( Langdon will look at the code and see about the feasibility of adding this for DPL 4. Meanwhile, I heartily encourage the two dropped teams to keep shooting and figure this out by hand, it's not hard to do on paper :-)

That's what I meant, doofus... "on paper" is metaphorical, and it's called a "spreadSHEET" for a reason :-)

I got mine myself when I went with my dad to a math conference at Asilomar (near Monterey) ...

I got mine from my Dad when my high school physics teacher decided that calculator technology was so varied in terms of functionality and affordability that he wanted to make sure everyone had the same tools and told us we all needed a slide rule. It was his in high school and college and still has his name and old address hand written in the leather holder. That was 35 years ago and it's a personal treasure. Need to spend some time reminding myself how to use it. LOL

I've got one as well from my Dad. Amazing that they used that to send folks to the moon.

I've traded PM's with Tate and we've decided to put in an effort in order to establish an unofficial 3rd place finisher. For the record, the effort may likely be commensurate with the prize that goes with that finish. Regardless, we'll announce a victor when it's done. Might even set up a specific trash talk thread.

OK, maybe not that last part.

Of course, vawendy's image could be disqualified and we might have to shoot for real... :p

Spoke with a Voodoo doctor from New Orleans and he taught me an ancient Invalid Exif Data curse, hopefully it works. ;-)
