I'm with you. A 5 is still a 5 for me, a 6 a 6, and a 4 a 4. My average vote is in line with what it's always been.

I am simply positing that when seeing almost twice as many images as what was the normal around here for a while (FS aside), it's entirely possible that when handing out a 5 to a large subset of images, the next image may somehow seem "lesser" comparatively (after handing out fifty 5's) when it may not have previously (when handing out a dozen and a half). Your personal idea of "Just OK" now has dividing lines that didn't exist with 60-70 images. If you review your votes afterward like I do (fatigue can set in over the hours it takes to really vote on 160 images), it's tough to stare at a page and a half of 5's and not start to think that these are somehow unequally equal. If that thought process enters your voting then the 4 doesn't result from ranking, it's from a reassessing of your scale.

Valid point... well said.

ROFLMAO now that is the funniest thing I have read in awhile. Guess you like the places where you can post cellphone snap of the terd you just left in a McDonald's bathroom and get 10,000 likes and comments about how great a photographer you are.

Spell much?

Actually no. I like honest feedback as I said. I don't want coddling, but likewise I don't want to waste time shooting for challenges here only to be torpedoed by people with no skill and no comprehension of how to use a rating scale.

Apparently the same could be said for posting in threads here. Sheesh.

Actually sent that from my phone while driving, but I fixed it for you...........

You want honest feedback yet list three places that are so honest.......
1 - Facebook = all your friends who just love any crap you post
2 - 500px = I use to post there...........same crap as most places...........guess the rating system is just up your alley, like button makes it pretty easy
3 - Google = Ok, you may be right here as I have no experience with this place.

Here I will give you some feedback.......looked at your profile and you are an average photographer with average post processing talent

You came back for DPL and all you have done from that moment is bitch about the voting system (which you knew what it was when you came back) and then bitch about voting during DPL (which is what brought you back).

By best,

Ronnie

:) You're funny

You claim to have looked at my profile and then claim that I came back for DPL. Those two statements are not compatible. DPL was announced well after I came back and was sharing. But no, when I "came back" I didn't know voting had deteriorated to the state it is now. It was never this bad before. Now with DPL it's even worse.

Regardless you might be a scummy quitter, but have a little too much integrity to abandon my team like you apparently would.

But you make me laugh, so it might be worth sticking around to see what you'll say next.

This place is weird. Always has been, always will be I guess.

I, too, came back recently after 5+ years. My observation is that not much has changed. Voting, scores, condescending forum fights, it's all still here. But I don't mind. Rachel, pass the popcorn please.

Good grief. The digital age sure has been devastating for polite interaction....

Stop attacking each other. Period.

Whine, moan, bitch, and vent about stuff, but stop calling each other things. I mean it.

Thank you. It was getting very uncivil.

back to scores, I'm moving on up, almost at a 5.5 now. lets keep voting my image higher and higher, it'll make me very happy! :)

I swear I just posted here. Hate phone typing.

My scores have been the lowest I've had since joining 10-11 years ago. Is it DPL? Nope. It's been since the beginning of the year. Six months worth of pretty sucky scores in general. Is it the voters? Nope. Plenty of people are still getting great scores. It's my photography. Plain and simple. Either I try harder, or I accept the decline. It is what it is.

A bit harsh and the type of thing that has caused many players to abandon DPC, why continue telling people to leave as Klkitchens is merely expressing an opinion.

DPL has brought many players back but if the forums continue with users telling others to leave then 30 entries may become the future normality.

One thing I have noticed is the forums are silent for long periods of time which certainly wasn't the case a couple of years ago, is it because people are afraid to post anything for fear of being berated or told to leave... I will let you decide!

Ah yes... the good old days. When a Free Study might have 400-500 entries too :)

Because a 5 (or lower) is not an honest assessment? I've seen bad snapshots on Facebook and Flickr get wild raves. If you need to be built up by positives, then maybe this is not the place for you.

Even if it seems that way, high score here doesn't necessarily mean better photo - we all have our own styles. Don't follow the clique's style, hone your own. I am the Walrus is a good challenge for it! :)

I can't figure if a low score means the feather is light or leaden.
