Just dropped from 5.3 to this in 2 votes. I figured this image for a 5.6-5.75 range. I guess I was wrong.

Mine's scoring less than what I was hoping for, too. There are some nice ones in there, though.

I took mine with my cell phone so I knew it wasn't gonna fair well,

A lot of fun images in this one and look forward into voting and commenting on this one :0))

Voters are being brutal this time. I honestly thought it was worth a 6.4.

I generally struggle with still lifes. I find it hard to get an interesting pic of an inanimate object. My current score reflects that.

I thought I was halfway decent at still lifes (when they meet the challenge at least), but even though this one meets it apparently it's just not a good photo.

I drove 1h, specially for this camera challenge...believe the shot is decent and well processed

Brutal result!!

You all beat me, I wasn't brave enough to even allow for mine to be scored.

I had shot, processed, and even thought I liked my end result. Then I saw it on my ipad and it looked awful. Still Lifes are such a challenge. I pulled my shot out of the challenge at two minutes before the challenge closed. (And I looked at it on another computer this morning and it really wasn't good.)

Monitor calibration and some serious time shooting lighting setups is in order.

My first 10 votes last night were all 6's. The last 15 votes cast this morning have all averaged 5. Sounds like the voters woke up a bit surly this morning. Currently 25 votes at 5.444.

hopefully the recipient of Jeb's camera is faring better. This is her first challenge on the site; I'd be remiss if she entered into her first challenge and got totally slammed because of people expectations vs voting on the challenge as it is presented.

What do you mean by that exactly? Just curious.

I'm sitting at an even 5 with 23 votes BTW. Thought it would do better but oh well.

I don't know if this is helpful for your friend who's new to the site, but I was really surprised by my "scores" the first few challenges I entered. Nearly gave up as it made me feel like no one here would ever like my work, but decided to just keep going, despite scores that, to me, feel like "slams" every time :)

oh, I got my sights reset on the first challenge I ever entered as well, it was way below where I was expecting, I warned her in advance what (roughly) the score brackets on the site are.

chazoe, I mean that sometimes voters have preconceptions going into a challenge and the general feeling of those posting their scores in a thread like this is that even using normal dpc as a baseline, scores are falling short of that. If this challenge happens to be one of those times (blue ribbon in the mid 6's for example, or a significantly large difference between the blue and everything else), then unless you are one of the exceptional images (which most non-professionals are not), you may be disinclined to commit to the site even knowing a standard baseline.

Gotcha.

I've honestly never cared too much. I lurked for quite a while before joining so I understood the difference between my stuff and the stuff that wins ribbons consistently. I enter what I like and the only time I even contemplate score is if I can't decide between two images I'll enter the one I think may score better, but I'm usually wrong.

some big chunks dug out of my score with very vote. In the last 10 hours I've dropped 1.3! Damn.

I had a good start with 6.2 and now went down to 5.7 meaning I am consistent with my scores in all challenges as final numbers would be around that :)
03/12/2015 02:33:42 PM · #19
I can't help but be disappointed when started with a 6.4 and stayed in that vicinity until this afternoon when the downhill roll started... down to 5.9 now :(

Well, I *expected* an 8.5 on this one, it's clearly a masterwork of the highest order, but my expectations apparently were dyslexic, 'cause I'n pulling a 5.8... And so it goes...

Mine actually went up over a half a point, I was surprised, it was super low but at least it is out of the 3s LOL for the last week,
Still very low though but not as what it was before, it always seems when I post the scores, my score gets jinxd
