I would like to get back into DPC. I was addicted to this place. It was so much fun and I learned so much. I wish I never started doing weddings and studio work. I stopped thinking the camera was for enjoyment and it became a job I started to dread. I must have gotten the bottom of the barrel brides. I have 3 completed wedding albums in my office waiting for them to be picked up. They paid me in full but never picked them up. They changed their phone numbers and I gave up trying to contact them. I didn't have a clause in the contract that stated that I am not responsible after 5 years so I guess I will have keep them ready the rest of my life.
I still regularly read through the forums and go through the entries. My daughter just got a DSLR (Nikon D7100) for Christmas and she is starting to really like it and ask me to go places for pictures. She might get back involved here. I hope she does. She had some pics entered when she was 10 years old. ( HannahMt5
I quit the 'business' in 2011. Got a blue ribbon with a bug picture and stopped taking pictures almost cold turkey. I tried to make a comeback in 2013 by joining one of the team things...but I think I quit early on. Nothing at all in 2012 or 2014.

Welcome back!
As you can see from this thread you are not the only one "returning to the fold" -- in fact, there have been quite a few over the last couple of months. If you browse the threads in the Welcome Center section of the forums you can probably find a few others where people talk about why they left/came back.
I'd say the biggest thing you can do to "have fun" taking pictures is don't worry about your scores -- post something you really like, the "most interesting" picture, not the "best" (by DPC voter standards), or enter some side challenges where we don't have recorded votes.
See if you can get Hannah to re-up too -- let's see what she can do with that new camera! |

I did. Took a 2-year break and then an almost 5 year break.
Started back up in late August for a reason to use the camera I treated myself to but kept on a shelf.
Just recently replaced my top 5 with new entries, and won my first blue so I have one each of 1st through 5th places.
Also made comments on 100% of entries in quite a few challenges last year, which helped me a lot with how to think about and relate to my own photos.
You totally should jump back in the deep end! |

Ok, I don't know you, but I'm happy you're still trying to come back. Think of the most opposite thing to brides, something you've always wanted to try, and then shoehorn that into a challenge :) |

Yes, I have a suggestion for you to consider: Comment on the photos you like. Give yourself 5 min. to look at the photo & figure out why you like it. Then, put it into words. Do that for 10 challenges. Do a few of them with your daughter helping you. I think this will help you re-discover the pleasures of photography.
Also, if you have a camera you are not familiar with or even a lens you are not familiar with, use that for a while. The experience of discovery with unfamiliar gear will help you escape from the camera-for-hire rut you are in.
Join the portrait side-challenge. You will like it. |

You'll find it's a more, well, "compact" group now, and that's not necessarily all bad.
