Yes let's do this one.

Yes! Though I'm not sure if he would be honored or horrified at such a thing. Maybe he can jump in here and tell us.

Anita, please abandon this mad idea. I am not a good photographer, and I have no discernible style. And I would truly wince at seeing it demonstrated by anyone but me. One is more than enough. Thank you.

I never said you were good :)

Well, let me try this then: The value of a Style Of challenge for a community of photography enthusiasts is that it forces the participants to extend themselves as photographers. But my negligent, low fidelity photographs don't have much to do with photography. It'd be like challenging a group of chefs to make toast. They could do it, but it wouldn't add anything meaningful to their professional CVs.

I think this would be an excellent exercise. You have a unique eye, and there is much to be learned in your so called "low fidelity" images. Too often I can find myself focused on the technical aspect of photography to the neglect of other aspects of the image.

Hey! I just noticed your highest rated photograph is no longer that 'Crown of Thorns' congratulations man, I know you hated that one.

There's nothing to stop a:

'With the philosophy of Ubique': for this challenge, let go of notions of being a 'good at photography', make 'being interesting your primary goal'. In the spirit of the challenge, members are especially encouraged to offer considered comments on entries of interest. Let's make it a week of image mediated discourse!

I'm guessing that would be in line with what Anita imagined and Paul, if we had people browsing your portfolio and the comments you make with the intention of reacting to what they find, any notion of homage aside, I think it might be an interesting community-based artistic event!

In many ways, it could be a 'Ubique as catalyst' challenge - not just your work as the catalyst, but your agency; as the catalyst to a different sort of engagement with a challenge.

What's the worst that could happen? People contriving to set themselves free! What a delicious tension!

Let's sow the seed of disruption and see what happens!

Oh yeah, this would be a treat of a challenge.

I like the idea of the catalyst of agency challenge. The 'not in the style of Ubique' challenge. The story of the other, something that is missing, absent or misleading, but intimates another mindset or feeling/emotion/object. Something that eludes to but means something else, a metaphore?. That is one of the functions of art, n'est ce pas?

I think I do have the capacity to kill a thread. Please carry on regardless.

Yes.

"as he takes it", not "as his looks".

Definitely no vignetting.
Basic editing and not minimal, as he likes to do the square-thing.

The value of this site as a photography site may just be the fact that the way one thinks about photography and the "arts" can be shaped here just as much as one's technicals...

This challenge should be expert editing, giving everybody an opportunity. I think he would enjoy a collection of images where photography doesn't get in the way of the photograph. Take this in any direction you want but keep it genuine.

I concur, and suggest the following challenge description:

This week, create a photograph worthy of a ubique's Order of the Thumb comment. Look here for clues.

The challenge is UP! It's a spring sort of thing :-) You can find the work here: ubique.

It would be wonderful to see DPCers absorbing, for a week at least, some of the quirky mentality of our most iconoclastic "non-photographer", as we all set out to make genuinely *interesting* photographs :-)

Shut up Paul, we don't really care what you think at all, we just like what you do and we want this challenge.
