OK I have tried not to post anything on this. OK as most people in the US know midterm elections are Tuesday. Now I am in Louisiana which is one of the several heated elections. Here in La Mary Landrieu is in very serious trouble. I think she will be out of a job. Her prob is she voted with Obama 97% of the time. This includes Obamacare (which needs to be repealed). I have voted for her in the past...but no more.

OK the people in the US are upset with Obama. His foreign policy is laughable. His domestic policy is laughable. The big majority of his policies are laughable. The only prob is its not funny. I do find it funny that dems don't want him at their fundraising events. The dems are trying to distance themselves from this pres because he has tainted the dem movement.

There are many heated races this year I cant wait to see how many dem seats get lost

Don't poke your finger in other people's eyes Cowboy. I'm guessing you will wind up satisfied after all is said and done, but it does no good to taunt the liberal faithful here over it. It's all cyclical and I'm a bit more melancholy about the whole thing. Basically I'll be trading a set of "I like this about the Democrats and don't like this about them" for "I like this about the Republicans and don't like this about them". Generally both sides are bankrupt of any real solutions for most of what ails us. The propositions are always more interesting to me because they may actually affect my life. Oregon has a few interesting ones this year. Legalized pot (I'm afraid I'm probably casting in a losing battle there, but what can you do), GMO labeling (a well-intentioned, poorly thought out proposition that is probably just going to wind up limiting my food choices), and a top-two forward primary system which is potentially very interesting and could be a way to depolarize our politics (studies seem to show that a top-two forward ballot (ie. you could have two democrats or two republicans running against each other on the final ballot instead of one of each) encourages candidates to race to the middle. When two candidates come from the same party the more moderate is likely to win as they gain the votes from the other party as they chose the "lesser of two evils".) Anything that would encourage moderation is a thumbs up in my book.

Lucky you -- you get to vote against her twice!

The same hold true for most instances where a President falls out of favour with the electorate.

Perhaps the biggest fear that I have is that the two parties will return to the pre-election antics and nothing will move and each side will be blamind the other for the failure to pass anything.

A rather sad state of affairs.

Don't you live in Canada Ray? What difference does gridlock in the US Congress make to you? I was reading an article just today where polling info indicates most peeps in Canada would much rather have Obama than what they have now. Maybe we could arrange for him to immigrate to Canada. :) Assuming your immigration policy is porous enough to handle the job.......

The performance of the American government, and of the American economy, affects EVERYBODY in the world. And after all, Canada shares an immense border with us. He's entitled to his concerns.

Ever consider that I might have family, assets and other matters that endear me to the USA. The fact that I have family members that retired from USMC might also come into play. Did I mention that so far I have visited over 40 of the States in the USA... not to shabby for a foreigner eh?

We in Canada consider our relationship with the USA akin to that of a mouse being in bed with an elephant. Every move the elephant makes has a direct bearing on our well being.

I do appreciate your concerns however and I would not worry too much about our porous border since we have not experienced the massive influx of illegals that some other unfortunate countries have.

Have a great day. :O)

Judging by the lamentations of some regarding the massive influx of illegals into their country, the term "unfortunate" does seem appropos.

not all see it that way. most of what you hear is propaganda from unions, national security freaks and people who only like white people. i dont understand why the majority of Americans feels this is a major issue. illegals immigrants contribute for more to society then they realize and if they go so does our economy to an extent.

I would say the "intellectual argument" is an attempt to preserve stability for our society through maintaining an orderly process.

I play pickup soccer. I love it. Usually when we start our game on Saturday morning it is 8v8 or 9v9 or something. Invariably people show up after the game starts and come on. There is grumbling about it and some people try to say "no more players" but nobody wants to stare someone in the face and tell them they can't play because the game was going already. Often the game winds up 14v15 or some number above and beyond what constitutes a full team. This makes the game much less fun for everybody.

Immigration is like that. There is a point where society cannot handle the free-flowing influx of people. Are we there right now? I'm not so sure, BUT I do know that an orderly, lawful process to admit new members to society is the best way to prevent that situation. I am 100% all for a worker ID program for this reason, but even though I'd hate to look in the eyes of the child who just made the trip illegally and say "you have to go back" it doesn't mean that's not the right answer.

Right now I certainly agree with you Bear. I think after a few more presidential and congressional terms, like the last two or three, the American economy won't make quite as big an impact. I was just wondering about Ray, he always seem to be so Canada oriented I just found his statement odd for some reason. I guess since we have healthcare for all now just like Canada, he feels more kinship with US. :) Once we admit all comers thru our border he'll be treating us just like another province. LOL North American Union forever!!!!!!

Sigh. It's all gonna hit the fan tomorrow apparently. I'm sick, sick, sick of black being white and up being down all depending on which party is in power. They criticize their opposition on one hand and do the very thing they criticize on the other. Gah!

Who said this?:

“I taught constitutional law for ten years. I take the Constitution very seriously. The biggest problems that were facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all, and that’s what I intend to reverse when I’m President of the United States of America.”

I really want comprehensive immigration reform, but we all know how pissy the Republicans can get when they feel slighted (not that they have some monopoly on this) and now it's going to be a bunch of "boo hoo, we're going home" and NOTHING is going to get done all because Obama for some reason decides that NOW he has to act unilaterally. Washington is so broken. And don't just point at the color you didn't vote for. Red or blue. They both suck.

Stop the ride. I wanna get off.

Well 1 hour after polls closed, Senator Mary Landrieu (D) incumbent......Has just lost her job. She should not have voted with Obama as much as she did. She absolutely should write a thank you note to Obama

Not unlike my American friends, I too take great pride in my country.

The point I was trying to make is that any and all decisions the USA makes has a direct impact on the world economy and probably has a greater impact on Canada than any other nation. Things like NAFTA, the Keystone pipeline and a host of other issues have a direct bearing on the Canadian economy, hence our concerns.

This could very well be my last post since my renewal is due tomorrow and I have yet to make up my mind.

Have a great day all.

Ray, just come to the dark side. You can annoy people in the forums and complain about the rules all you want for free.
