Greetings...

As of this morning there were no images left to critique. I 'unselected' several images that had been selected by CC members for several days that had not received critiques yet. There are currently 6 more images in the queue...

And zero again, wanted to do some more. Guess I have to wait a few hours. :)

Please don't. As I have explained some times, I only have time for writing critiques at the weekends, mostly late sundays. I was very disappointed to see my assignment gone. I already "mentally" made notes during the week about what to write.

I know, you only want to make sure that as many people get a critique as possible, but I assure you that I'll do my assignment.

Ok...

Here's what I will do... I will not release selected photos anymore... The reason I released the ones I did was to ensure that everything got critiqued. We had no more available to select and CC participants who wanted to do the critiques. I need to come up with some type of system to manage this. There were a few users last week who did not critique the photos they had selected. I believe that is unfair to the photogrpaher if we select their image and then don't critique it. There are CC members who would have critiqued the image if they could have selected it. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated...

We are doing fairly well so far. We have completed two of the last three challenge sets 100%. The first set was 188 images. The second set was 211 images (did not complete this one... about 30 short). The third set was 167 images.

Here's how you can figure out how many you need to do each week to make your 'equal' share of challenges:

On Monday, take a look at how many images are in the queue and divide it by 40. We have about 40 members. We also have a pretty large spread on members who do many critiques and those who do none or very few. We have a handful who haven't done any since we moved to the automatic system, and we have a handful who average 7-10 per week.

Azrifel:

Your roadsign photo is selected by a member. It will get done but I'm not sure when. Hopefully it will get done today.

is there any way the you could put a photo in the queue twice? so that this problem doesn't ever happen. like on sunday you see that 15 photos are in queue. just requeue them but leave the original queue. that way all of the critiques would almost always get done, and some people would occasionally receive two critiques

I'm with Stephen - I put a lot of thought into each picture and sometimes life happens, I WILL do the critique on the photos I have been assigned but maybe not by Sunday night. ANd yes, Anachronite (sp) I have your photo. I'll get to it. If you are impatient I can release it if you'd like. Ellen

Just a thought here... There's nothing stopping you from commenting in-depth on the shot you gave the thought to. I doubt anyone will complain if they end up with two in-depth comments :)

I was wondering...

Would it be overly complex to set it so that once all the current challenge shots were gone, the Crit Club button could assign "Photos from the Past"? Just randomly assign shots from past challenges that came before the Crit Club was formed?

Probably more trouble than it would be worth... But it's a thought...

I think it would be helpful when everybody would be able to release a photo him/herself. Then when you get the feeling that you won't have time for the critique you can (silently) release it to be critiqued by somebody else.

To motivate people to actually do that, everybody's name, who fetched a photo but didn't finish it, should be posted to the forum :-)

One shouldn't be able to fetch another photo for the rest of the week after releasing one.

Jep. I agree. Never thought that so soon we'll be able to comment on so many photos.

I think that's normal. Personally I do very few and my goal is to constantly do 2 photos a week. That may sound not much to some of you but it takes me about 1.5 hours to write one critique. I'm not complaining or something, a lot of the time is because I have the additional task to translate my thoughts into English ;-) But I really think a lot about the photo and try different things in my image editor. So besides practicing my English it's the best way I know to learn photography from others.

All of the photos that were in the queue have critiques...

02/03/2003 01:11:04 AM · #17
From the looks of the entry page, default is a critique request.

Just wondering if default was off, then perhaps the pictures might be few enough that they get more than one critique. That way, those who really want a critique could get perhaps more than one. And those who just leave the defaults where they are, won't get a critique that they may never read.
