Hahaha!

Wow. What attention to detail. Of them all, I liked Malkovich in the role of Migrant Mother the best.

It makes more sense if you watch Being John Malkovich.

A lot of talent on both sides of the lens.

Not amused? Have you considered the possibility that the photographer is actually being uber-clever, and this "John Malkovich Being" parody collection has amusement value in bagsfull, after all?

Because it might be a commentary on the descent of contemporary photography into plagiarism and inbreeding. A wry observation on the fact that popular photography has become a tasteless, barren pastiche in which the same themes, the same techniques and even the very same setups are regurgitated ad infinitum, only to be celebrated all over again by the credulous.

Consider as a random example the recently completed DPC challenge, Skyscape II. The ribbon-winning images are all safe, familiar and … terminally boring. They aspire to be nothing beyond echoes of what has gone before. Yet buried well down in the results of that same challenge is a small number of original photographs, ambitious photographs, photographs that willfully color outside the lines and that try to do something interesting via photography.

This Malkovich parody collection might be amusing because it’s subtle; capable of being taken by the undiscriminating at face value, while in reality secretly mocking those who’d pronounce it to be “creative”. It’s creative only in the sense that it is so elaborately not.

An artistic double-entendre, in other words. Or, as posthumous was suggesting with his reference to the BJM movie, a triple-entendre. A parody within a parody, within a parody.

That’d be dead amusing, wouldn’t it?

I was amused. I am still amused. I am going to click back to the link again now and will shortly be amused again. (The more amusement I can have in my life, the better!)

Thanks.

It'd be amusing if it were carried off even half-well... but the lengths the photographer went to to carry it off so incredibly well leaves me much more than amused.

I love John Malkovich. It makes me smile when celebrities don't take themselves too seriously. And I smile at these photos. Thanks for sharing.

Being John Malkovich was a fantastic movie, the whole time i was looking at these i was thinking this is just the inverse of that movie and it was great!

would that it were. I may have been hasty. I may be far too depressed by the "descent of contemporary photography."

This

I do not doubt that this series carries both a bagful of tender homage to the photographer's influences, and a cheek big enough to hold the largest tongue imaginable. This had to be both painstakingly difficult and incredibly amusing to shoot. I don't see why it can't exist in more than one realm equally.
