... if only I could find out how! (Not in the FAQ)
There is way too much nepotism here, image creators are so often known when voting and influence accordingly. When this badly composed over sharpened bird table shot (sorry Wendy, but that's what it is)is deemed a 'Master' - well, angels weep!
There are some wonderful images created here, they deserve a better home. There are some still here with talent - I hope they find their wings.
Here is where it begins and ends

(Masterful)

Forget your sharpening and your saturation - dare to be a seer.

Your opinions, and you are entitled to them. But let me address one of your comments. This image is not over-sharpened. Not one bit. It is highly detailed, no doubt there, but the sharpening applied is actually fairly conservative. Everything else is a matter of taste.

Everything kirbic said he just types faster then I do.
Also I'll add that I kind of think of Wendy as the MASTERess of Bluejays so it worked for me.
The photos that you posted are all beautiful and if you like Masters. She just won this one.

Is this the thread where we all post all the photos that we've marked as a favorite, and belittle the photos that we don't like? I've been searching the forums for that thread and I just haven't been able to find it.

The majority of 179 voters obviously disagree with your personal assessment.

Duh! Exactly - read what I wrote. People voted for 'Wendy' not an image that could be termed a 'Master'

You haven't entered anything since 2010. What are you resigning from?
02/05/2014 04:18:07 PM · #11
Shouldn't this be in Rant? Maybe not even there!

It's acceptable to post your favorites from the challenge, whether they win ribbons or not - if they didn't, it's an implied "I don't agree that the winners are the best" - but bashing the winners directly is rude. Furthermore, any allegations of vote rigging or "playing favorites" should be discussed with the Site Council, not made public.

Excuse me, but I totally disagree with you. When I saw this wonderful image I didn't know who took it, I just saw an awesome image that I really think it deserved a 10 from me, and after rollover I found out it was Wendy's and won the blue ribbon. That happened with almost all the images, but I can assure you that my vote is not biased by any preference but my own judgment of what is a great image.

On that count, you're just plain wrong. I voted and had no idea who shot it despite a pretty good sense of site history and photographer styles. You seem to be making the argument that a large group of photographers are less qualified than you to judge what constitutes a good photo... and you're making that argument to those same photographers. Good luck with that.

I agree about oversharpened images, but I also agree that's not one of them. Wendy's got glass.
02/05/2014 04:29:36 PM · #16
How is Wendy's stunning Bluejay image different from this?

You got a 7.8 with this image......

Wendy got a 7.2.......and it's prolly the finest bird shot I've seen in a while.

Nobody does birds like Wendy.

Of all the images to pitch a hissy over.....and by THE master of bird shots.

I do hope you realize that by resigning you're forfeiting your severance package. Perhaps a less-permanent leave of absence to a beach somewhere would be better.

While I agree with most of the posts disagreeing with your attack on vawendy, I have to say that selection of images you posted above is really quite good. Interesting thing, though, is that, almost without exception, nearly every one of those images was taken by a photographer who is well respected around here, both on the forums and in the challenges. I daresay most of them would disagree with you that their images do not have a good home here on DPC.

this isn't the way to resign, you are supposed to kick and scream how unfair it all is and wait for us to beg you not to leave.

I don't think there was Wendy conspiracy at all in the Masters' Challenge.

It does appear that there was a bird conspiracy of some magnitude. ;-)

I'll give my 0.02 and I think Wendy can take it.

I don't think the winning image is a "masters" image. Just my opinion, and I'll explain. We all know Wendy is very, very good at taking pictures of birds. In fact, I'd say she qualifies as a "master". But this image, specifically, doesn't possess any ephemeral quality which places it above other bird pictures. It's technically very good, but it's a moment that could be duplicated in an average photo session done by someone who knows what they are doing.

In any genre of photography, the special photos, the master photos, capture something rarely captured. Whether that is a special quality of light in a landscape, or a special moment of serendipity in a candid, or some special behavior or moment in wildlife photography.

When I saw this picture I pretty well knew instantly it was Wendy's, but I didn't think it was particularly special and was, frankly, pretty surprised to see it at the top. No knock to Wendy. My own entry isn't particularly great and wound up about where I think it deserves. It's hard to grab a master shot in two weeks because part of a master shot is, literally, luck.

BTW, I didn't vote. Just left some comments. Wendy, I love ya. Don't take this all the wrong way or as a personal attack.

As usual, I think that I like MY image more than Wendy's image ... and everyone else's image... in this challenge, and it certainly should have scored a ribbon... probably the blue one.

It's because MINE is perfectly to my taste. It's everything I like about photos. And we all know that my opinion is what's right, because... well... it's MINE!

Oh WAIT! I didn't enter.

Never mind, then...

Am I always the last one to know? I thought Wendy was the squirrel lady, not the bird lady.
And no, I didn't know it was hers, when I saw and voted on this image that told me something new about a blue jay.
:)
