Call me stupid if you like, but why does a website need a Facebook page? Don't we already have 'social media' right here? Why spread DPC thin? Wouldn't you rather have more people participating HERE than little pockets of people all over? Put a link to DPC on your Facebook page.

You're nobody til you get your face in a book, even if you don't have a face and it's not really a book.

The real question is where's DPC's MySpace page?

There's a couple of DPC Flickr groups. They're pretty much dead.

Leo is thinking like a true marketer. Here are some reasons why his suggestion is smart (IMHO):

Brand Awareness

There are over 800 Million people on Facebook and more than 500 Million are active every day. That’s a lot of people who may become aware of your brand (DPChallenge) through Facebook posts and ads.

By creating a Facebook page, you are able to tell your story on a social scale. What is your brand, what makes you unique and what sets you apart? With a page on Facebook, you have a new avenue (to be used in addition to other methods) to share your story. If done correctly, your story will resonate with your fans, and they’ll share it with their friends.

Drive Website Traffic

Whether or not you have a physical location doesn't matter. "Websites" use Facebook a lot. Driving traffic to that website is undoubtedly one of your goals.

Anything that is new and interesting you put on the Facebook page.

Just always remember that the purpose of your page isn’t only to promote yourself. It’s to involve your existing member and potential members. Make them feel a part of your brand.

Drive Sales

One of the chief goals of any marketing strategy should be to generate revenue. It may not be direct revenue, but the results of your efforts should eventually lead there. Hopefully this revenue is put back into the site and not just sitting in someone's bank account.

Get Feedback

What’s beautiful about Facebook is that it’s a two-way conversation. As a result, you can get immediate feedback from members and potential members on likes and dislikes. You can even use them to recommend new idea's. By involving your customers in this discussion, they become part of the solution. They feel like they are a part of DPC, and responding to their feedback builds loyalty.

Increase Brand (DPC) Loyalty

If I am a fan of a restaurant, and I know what the lunch deals are every morning through Facebook, I’m more likely to go there for lunch. If they are fun and human and respond to their customers, I am more likely to recommend them to my friends. When we invite brands into our social lives on Facebook, we ultimately become more loyal to them. Those who connect with brands on Facebook are also more likely to buy something from them.

Reach a Larger Audience

When you create a Facebook page and open it to the public, your first fans will be people who are already members. They are friends, family, employees, people who are already well aware of how awesome DPC is.

But every time your fans interact with your brand on Facebook (posting on your wall, commenting on a post, liking something, sharing your stories, etc.), they are sharing your brand in their friends’ news feeds. And each time this happens, you reach a potential new customer who had never heard of you or simply didn’t consider DPC previously. It's called a snowball effect.

And that’s the power of Facebook. People are more likely to use a product or service if it is recommended by a friend.

It's all good!

The successful use of a Facebook page can result in more brand awareness, more members, increased loyalty and more revenue. And how can you say no to any of that? You can't. I invite you to give consideration to Facebook. It's a smart move.

Heck even my camera has a facebook page: NIKON D7100

Sorry - I cannot agree with anything related to Facebook. I don't think it does any of the things you outline to anywhere near the degree people purport. The only thing being helped by doing anything with Facebook is Facebook.

That my friend is the beauty of an open exchange of idea's!

All fair points IF we were talking about an active, maintained growing site..... I think we are on the right hand side of the curve [open to debate how far down the curve] - so having a group that is accessible independently of what might or might not occur with the main site makes sense to me.

Which is what current admins are doing for their own business. I see what Focuspoint is doing as something positive.

Admin's lack of interest = my lack of spending $25 to support him= I'm a registered user now.

Good man Leo, I am beginning to warm to you.

Hey, right on man!

That looks great dude.

I've 'liked it', and shared it!

Seriously Leo - thanks for all the extraordinary effort you're putting in for all of us - clearly we've seen a small influx of new members this week - if all of us were working this hard DPC would be @ 3000 members already.

Heck.. If you guys ask what you can do... Share the fb link on your own fb pages... Its a funnel to this way if there are lots of people actually see it.

Also, I do have a fb fan page for my LX7 camera too :/

You know, finally there's an answer to that!

It's right here

Bear, see the little drop-down menu next to the gear icon directly right of the 'like' button? Click that.

Since it's over 25 likes now, here is the official link for the FB page... easy to remember

facebook.com/dpchallenge

I had trouble finding the new FB page - both of the other DPChallenge pages came up first in my searches. I wouldn't have been sure which was the right one had it not been for the screenshot in the first post. Thanks for the screenshot.

Who's moderating the FB page?

Love the idea of posting ribbon winners there to advertise the quality at DPC.

Leo, I have a FB page, (only because I have some distant relatives that use that as a means to contact me), so I'm not all that hip on how to use it. Can you tell me how I add a link on my page to dpchallenge please?
