...may, after 2-3 more viewings, become my all-time favorite movie. it's already in the my top 5 (along with Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan, Casablanca, and Up).

it's much more than a well-crafted, well-acted, beautifully filmed story that centers on a photograph. i hope others will enjoy it as much as i did, and will be motivated to go out and shoot a little more...

And they allowed a guy to spend 25k worth of production budget on aid relief instead... Kinda cool, and made a good video.

I can't wait til it comes to cable or Netflix and I can watch it captioned :-) One of my all-time favorite STORIES, the Thurber original.

@cory: that's a helluva story

@bear: it might be worth it to go travel into the city to see it on the big screen (i lot of the larger theaters around here have devices for the hearing impaired). [on a side note, big news for you ]!

also, you have to go into this with no preconceptions. for the moment, put aside thurber and danny kaye and enjoy this on its own merits.

Just got done watching the original on TCM. The back story about Thurber was quite interesting. He truly hated everything about the movie; the casting, the songs, the added scenes. Thurber even wrote an apology to Walter Mitty as a letter to Life magazine. But the movie is a classic and one of my faves.

I recognized a number of Iceland spots on the trailer. Should be fun to watch.

Why has Japan started lagging so much in movie releases? Desolation of Smaug doesn't come here until 28 Feb. This Walter Mitty flick won't be here until 19 March. Last in the world, again.

Awesome movie. It sucks you in without you even knowing it. Very well done. I want the soundtrack. This is one of those films where whoever picked the soundtrack should get an award. Definitely worth the bucks to see in a theater.

Would like to see the old version with Danny Kaye as well. Just to compare.

just got back from a 2nd viewing. definitely makes my top-3 all time. definitely agree with deb, the music is incredible. the visuals (especially iceland and the h_______s) are awesome. i can't imagine anyone, especially anyone with even a passing interest in photography, not wanting to run out of the theater to go shoot something or somebody somewhere.

as for comparing it to any prior works, i'd say don't bother. they may share a name, title character, and a particular trait, but that is about it.

i'll let it go here: 2 hours and $15 and you will probably come out really believing anything is possible.

I enjoyed it, but I wish there was more dream-sequence scenes. Just turned into a love story half way through.

I was very disappointed with the movie. I expected more far more travel adventures. Instead I got travel to a handful of places for a few weeks or so. That's hardly life changing. The characters were also lacking in depth. 5/10 :-)

loved this movie, the end was the best, I couldn't stop crying, my son thought I was such a dag! Tried to stay until the end, when the credits were rolling, and the cleaner wanted me out, said that there's nothing else to see, I don't think it was fare on me to get kicked out of the cinema when i was trying to enjoy the music.....btw haven't stopped playing the soundtrack since I saw the movie!!

Do yourself a favour watch it! Even just for the ending, that's life. I love life!

and it's available for the little screen!

a buck and a quarter @ redbox, some microwave popcorn, and you've got a nice evening ahead of you.

and, yeah, that soundtrack is incredible.

the bigger the screen, the better ;-)
