Do you have any thoughts on
how this image (concept) can be improved?

Compositionally and technically, I think it is very good. I'm just not moved by they B&W treatment. Mayne a color version with a lovely splash of interest in the placemat or quality napkin.

I like both the composition and the B+W treatment. I think you have very nearly the optimal tones and contrast on the image.

The only thing I might add is a touch of brightness. It seems a bit on the dark side.

In the same way that you want the hands of the watch to be bright, you want the knife blade to catch as much light as you can. You can shift the light, or tilt the blade, but at least some of the flat of the blade should be as bright as the highlights on the fork and spoon. If the line of the knife was bright, it would be a much stronger compositional element, as it is now, it sits in middle gray flatness

Thank you all for your input guys.

Brennan, I had a quick play around with the lights, reflectors, and knife angle but so far,
not good. Flat lighting etc. I'll have to do some serious head scratching to light up those
serrations without killing the mood.
