So... Let's just have a break down of some scores... I found this VERY interesting.
Place #1's #2's #3's #4's
1st - - - -
2nd - 1 - 1
3rd - - - 2
4th - - 1 2
5th - - - 4
6th - - - 6
7th - 1 - 4
8th - - 1 3
9th - - - 7
10th - - - 4
Not only was there not a single 1 vote in the top ten, there were only three 1's and five 2's given in the entire top twenty entries.
Place #1's #2's #3's #4's
11th 1 - 1 5
12th - - 2 3
13th - - 1 1
14th 1 - 1 7
15th - - 3 4
16th - - 3 3
17th 1 2 - 4
18th - - - 8
19th - - 1 5
20th - 1 1 10
..
So, did the exercise of articulating a comment on all votes actually cause everyone to give out higher scores? (I certainly didn't... In fact I gave out two 1 votes, when often I won't even give out one, and the overall average was below my usual as well)
Or, were people afraid to give out low votes, thinking it would make them look like total Scrooges?
Something else perhaps?? Surely this hasn't ever happened before.

I don't think it had anything to do with the side challenge of commenting.
I believe the real reason is based on this thread
This has happened before, certainly after that thread I have seen a slow demise of the 1 and 2 vote.
I will dig out some stats! |

Top 20. There is a definite trend away from the low votes which I feel had a lot to do with that thread.

Easy, I just did it! :)
The weekly challenges are also hard to compare because the interpretation of the challenge description is too much of a variable.

FS have more participants and being the best of month have a better average quality. And still you can frequently find 1s and 2s. |

Here are the top 20 stats from two comparable weekly challenges.
One is a few months before the admin announcement and one is just after the announcement. You can read whatever you want into it!

Another challenge and keeping in mind the number of votes, you'll see a bigger difference! Like any stats read what you want :)

I find that hard to believe, unless many more folks are trying to help their scores through iffy voting than were caught. |

In any case, this is really quite interesting. There certainly does seem to be a trend away from the 1 votes in the last few months doesn't there?
Still... The entire challenge seems devoid of 1's, like I said - all the way into the 50's places. |

| I think we need much, MUCH more in-depth analysis on voting. It's the second least discussed issue (behind commenting). What we need is a voting Task Force. I'm going to go look for a Government grant for this - I'm confident there is one. |

I will give you a week of my life if what I have to say does not improve the situation of low-scores: Show Who Voted What!
Voting is done as now, so called smothered and cooked in a thick sauce of anonymity. THEN, as with paper-hatters and comments, once the challenge is done, every one should be able to see who voted what. Like click on the 1 and have a drop down list of 1 voters. The challenge is over and that info is available. Just make it an easy drop-down with names..... Possible?

I personally would have no problems with that, but then again I used to be a crusty S/Sgt who really did not give a rat's behind about what others thought of me...if I did I would have become an officer.
Most people don't care for any form of confrontation and with the proposal made here, we might just as well get rid of the scores between 1 and 4 since most folks would have to justify these.
Funny how no one clamours about the higher end score... do we honestly believe all of those are justified.
I can speak for no one else, but can assure you that I have no problems doling out a 1 score if I feel such a score is warranted and really don't care who knows about it... but I do believe others might not share my views about this disclosure.

Friend, I agree but you are, well, you. How many sound thinking people are out there? I propose the drop-downs for ALL scores, as you say, who says what is right. I hope to see, not confrontation, but discussion and feedback. I also do not think it is for justification, but for communication and learning. And anyone will be quick to spot 'funny' voting trends and relationships.
Please give drop down names a go, even just for a few months as an experiment? |

| Drop down scores for me would be interesting. Not sure how much I would use them though, as I suspect after seeing the same names (likely? Unlikely?) a few times, it will lose its interest. |

but confrontation is mostly what you will see if you out the 1 voters. I would gladly let people see my scores, but I don't want to force that same transparency on everyone. We have too much conformity as it is, I don't want to add more pressure to conform by exposing non-conformists. |
