For any one interested - Show us your "restyled" photos in the month of September (thread) :)

Oh, I hope we are going to put some comments in the Notes. Like, which Style you used & did you tweak it.
And I would be very grateful if you could include your original in the notes also.
This looks like an interesting plug-in. The plug-ins are getting more interesting than PhotoShop.
Now if only they'd switch it to platform!

Couldn't agree more! Please do include notes and steps as well as the original so we can see the magic happen.

I am playing with this picture currently:

1st = Original
2nd = "Cool Mountain View" (Landscape category) at 40% Opacity (I think):)
3rd = "Endless Polar Lake" - trying the lighter end of the scale as I tend to get too "dark" with my colors.

*Edited to correct horizons. :) (thanks!!)

Is there a straighten horizon button?

My bad, I couldn't resist! Sorry.

This will be fun. Thanks for getting this going.

Thank you, Marcia, for setting up this side challenge.

This is one of my first experiments. The original is a heavily manipulated abstract that I've printed and hung.
I do rather like the complete mood change of the topaz interpretation. But I don't remember the exact preset,
and there seems to be no way to re tain that information.

You can save presets to your own folder, with your own name, and at least build a set of favorites. But it IS odd that there seems to be no way to log the information as to which preset you actually used, automatically, other than write it down as a file note in PS. I even have a hard time figuring which preset I'm in AFTER I apply it but before I move on, LOL.

Here's a set.

Used a few Topaz Tricks on this.

Now, the same image, ran through ReStyle again:

:

A few more adjustments, a bit of blending, and .. Here's my final image:

Dunno. I figure they're all so darn inconsistent between photos anyway that it barely matters. I think the best part of this program is the inspiration - just go poking around until something strikes your fancy and suits the image. (or some part of the image at least)..

I think I'm more interested in the 'how does this fit into my workflow' question, or, at least, I think it's much easier to share and probably more useful/consistent.

Just my opinion though - maybe because I really never know what the hell preset I've chosen is, and because even if I did, then I tweak it to suit me after I start with that setting.

Also, I'm really liking the 'similar' comparison tool - dead useful.

Ok, full set of the before and afters:

..

yep. I like it. Totally expands my ability to evaluate a ton of color balances and other enhancements.

The last five images there the 'before' is either a challenge entry or contender - so the level of change is much less drastic than my first image - but I think it added a subtle improvement to the 'feel' of all of those images. I'm pretty sure this will become a common step in my workflow.

The only spot modifications here are in the first landscape image, and the image of the church (where I preserved a window's light color) - everything else was globally interpreted by Topaz Restyle.

Just for the fun of it. I was designing an email announcement for an upcoming show, and put the result into Restyle
What's good about this is that I can quickly see different color treatments. This is an enormous time saver.
However, so far, few of the presets that I have tried handle fonts well. Original:
Two presets: and

Regarding trying to remember presets, I also don't really usually keep track of which ones I used (except when doing a series), but in this case I was trying to keep track to describe the steps taken on that particular image for discussion in this thread.
We were thinking of posting our steps when the side challenge was announced.

Regarding fonts, if all the text layers are above all the image layers and you turn them off before ReStyling, the enhancements should apply to the image layer only. Or just make a new document, drop the fonts, ReStyle the new document, and drag the restyled layer onto the original document and place it under the text.

......Well, I'll be darned. (Not that I would use this color combo - but) Your suggestion of putting the Topaz on just the background layer worked like a charm! Look at the difference. Thanks for that, Bear.

Those are identical, and identically artifacted, on my screen. Sure you posted the correct "fixed" one?

Oh, sugarfoot, I'm getting a little cross-eyed with this exercise.
Here is the nice one:

I had no idea my iPhone could do Pano until I saw it on the commercial on TV.
To my great surprise, I can do a handheld shoulder-to-shoulder pano.
Honestly, I was sitting on a bench & I twisted my spine from extreme left to extreme right to get this.
No tripod. My Sony can't do this.

And then I played with it all afternoon in Topaz Restyle.

"My Sony can't do this."

Are you sure?! I'm 99.9999% positive I was able to get nearly a 360% panoramic capture with the A55 and a wide-angle (10mm) lens. My A77 has panoramic mode also ... comes in very handy on vacations, etc...

Hm. Maybe I just don't know how to get the Sony to do it. I can take pano shots, no problem, just not so wide.

The path on the left & right of the iPhone pano is actually in a straight line away to my left & right.

Anyway, I love the distortions created by a pano. I do them quite often.

from one 'starting point'

from another 'starting point'

combination of previous two.

. .

Original...1st creative edit...then I added two layers of ReStyle
chosen for the color of the highlight/shadows, blended to brighten the contrast.
I haven't started using the sliders yet.

I am really enjoying the experiments from Marion and Pixelpig.
Here's what happens when the image is desaturated first and ten topaz filter applied:
