You can only participate when you've seen the series and know the characters. I never have see an episode myself.

I had the same idea a few days ago. But then I thought about how few people actually watch the show (I wore my tardis shirt to work yesterday, at a geeky company, and got no responses to it).

Maybe instead just a suggestion for "Sci Fi Shows - Take a photo the represents your favorite science fiction show"

Yea, that would be a good one. Sapphire and Steel is my favourite science fiction show (maybe favourite show full stop).

Really?! No responses to a Tardis shirt! How rude of your co-workers. lol

If we just opened it up to any sci-fi show then the title should be the name of the show, and possibly the episode.

I love to do a Doctor Who challenge in honor of the 50th anniversary coming up this Nov!

However, I do agree that not many are familiar with the good Doctor :-( :-(

I reckon some will give this a blank look and then Silence Will Fall

:-)

I think that giantmike's suggestion would pull in more participation.

So how many Whovians are on here at DPC?

I do like a bit of Who but i'm not a huge fan. My childhood Doctor (s) was late period Tom Baker and Peter Davison and i still like a lot of the Baker shows, particularly when it was going through the kind of horror/gothic stage. I don't really like a lot of the Old Who as much as i kind of think i should (if that makes sense) although i watched the John Pertweee one, Inferno, recently and it was great.

As to New Who, i liked most of it. The Tennent stuff was mostly great and i really like Matt Smith's take on the Doctor although i haven't seen a lot of the last couple of series.

I'm trying to get my mind around the Tardis shirt. It's bigger on the inside than out, so does it make you look thinner or fatter?

As for watching the series, I remember first watching in the late 60s - it must have been soon after we got a TV and I definitely remember the assistant Jamie wearing a kilt. But mainly I grew up with Jon Pertwee as the doctor, then Tom Baker (Jellybaby?). I didn't watch it so much in the 80s, but I have seen some of the David Tennant series, IW/OM, here in Japan when we had pay TV. -

Sapphire and Steel used to freak me out as a kid. Only a couple of months ago I started watching all the old episodes again on Youtube. Still freaky!

Sapphire and Steel was pretty bonkers. I don't think anything near as mad would be made today.

Only series? Or is it ok to choose some sf movie as well? Makes it even more interesting.

LOVE Dr Who!! My daughter has TARDIS number plates on her car and we have at least two sonic screwdrivers in the house.
My son dressed up as Dr Who one year for a school thing and we made a K.9 and put his remote control truck underneath it so it could run along beside him :D
I will look out the photo and post it for you hehe

I watched a bit of Baker as a lad but didn't really get into it until David Hobby did a post on it recently on Strobist and regaled the show's lighting. Now I'm halfway thru season 4. Tennant does a great job.

I was a rabid fan during the Baker / Davidson days, even went to a convention or two. Great photo Penny Lane, about as high tech as the actual K9!

So for the Whovians - the 12th Doctor was announced today -

Peter Capaldi will be replacing the 11th Doctor, Matt Smith. And older Doctor - this will be interesting. A wee tiny bit disappointed that the regen did not have a female Doctor - Emma Thompson is the only one I could see handling the role. Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch would have been great but too well known.

Been a fan from somewhere near 1975 but have memories before then..... Managed to snag a signed Tom Baker book even :-); He he was my fav by far. I kinda lost the plot in the late 80's with the string of poor actors and found other things to do... but I was glad to see it come back with some strong acting, especially Tennant (I am glad we are rid of the Matt Smith era though and hoping the new one is strong and not a repeat of the downhill run).

Dr Who used to scare the living daylights out of me when I was a kid, well actually it was the daleks & the cybermen. One of the tv channels here is showing Dr Who with a different Doctor each month. It sure has brought back some memories. Recently I moved house & amongst all the junk that seems to move with me was a very old Dr Who magazine that had a series review of every series up to John Pertwee who at that time was the current Doctor. That dates how old that magazine was. It even has a blue print of how to build a full size dalek in it.

I assume this program was the inspiration for one of comedy's most famous bits (or maybe it was the other way 'round):

Lou Costello: I love to watch doctor shows -- is Kildare on now?

Bud Abbott: No, Who's on first ...

dpc is a learning experience. If folks don't know anything about Dr. Who, maybe they should do some research - maybe even watch an episode or two. I didn't know anything about it until about a year ago, when my college age son intro'd me to it. Absolutely love it. Very creative, with plenty of huh? (or is that huh!) moments. Great challenge suggestion, with lots of room for creativity.
