What type of critique specifically were you looking for?

Both decent pics, more documentary than art (not that documentary is not in itself art, but basically, more personal than ordinary documentary shots).

Hi Neil,

Thanks for the reply.

I wanted to see what "style" or photo people liked better. As I am experimenting with composition, the look, and feel.

This is not what I normally shoot as I am a commercial photographer. I am pretty much new to this type of photography.

So anything that can be pointed out at this point is very helpful to me.

I didnt put much of details to this as I wanted to get peoples gut reaction - good or bad.

Thank you,

Luda

The backlit shot is vastly superior to the other, much more engaging. I'm sure you expected this response.

I agree with Bear_Music.. In "B", the lighting is better, the frame of the trees, the heads being below the mountain tops, the interesting rocky foreground, the people being large enough in the image to see the details of their dress and equipment, all work to make a better, and much more interesting photo.

I think A is about the scenery, and B is about the people. That being said, I don't think the landscape in A is strong enough to make it a great picture, while the lighting in B makes a really terrific people picture.

Thanks Bear_Music - Yes I did like B better - I wanted to know as to why and what I did right on that one.

Devinder - Thank you for your opinion

Melonmuskateer and Tanguera - Thanks for the detailed explanation. That gives me a lot of things to consider. I appreciate the feed back.

Anyone else with an opinion would be greatly appreciated.

my first thoughts:
A has an over saturated sky. It doesn't feel like a realistic blue sky. The composition feels awkward.

B Has a lot of interesting points to it. The sky is more realistic, the composition more engaging, the landscape more appealing. Love the shadows of the people. However, the grey tones on the shirts look a bit washed out so maybe a little boost there.
